• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I've been battling with amazing tiredness. (It's what lost my job) My psychiatrist thinks its physical (cos I'm not depressed), my sleep specialist says just keep trying blah blah blah, and my GP is out of ideas.

I can have a day out (shopping or a social activity) and then I am so tired that I sleep for 2 or 3 days (and nights)

This is ridiculous!

Has anyone experienced this? sleeping for days without being depressed? Obviously there is something slightly depressing/annoying/frustrating about this situation, but it's not the clinical uber-depression we all know and hate. It's dizzy foggy-brained dopiness.

I this a bipolar thing? Or do I look at the physical?

What you're describing doesn't ring true for my bipolar but I'm bipolar 1. Even when I'm in a “down” I have this weird energy that's more like a restlessness. I don't have an energy spurt and then I'm out for a couple of days. It's not like that for me. My initial thought was it sounds like something hormonal but I don't know. Some of the other things I thought of are perimenopause, hypothyroidism, anemia, and chronic fatigue syndrome. I'm also thinking look at your diet, food allergies, and vitamin deficiencies. Vitamin D3 has benefited me greatly physically. Of course talk with your Dr. Another thing to consider is spiritual warfare. I know there have been times that I've been spiritually under attack and it was VERY draining. I would have to fortify spiritually. Ask people you know and trust to pray for you.
I don't know what it is but these are the things that came to my mind. Sometimes it's just a process of elimination. It can be lengthy but you can find the culprit. I know you've been going through this for some time. I hope you can find what it is so you can have your normal back.

I know a few people with bipolar who have waves of exhaustion -- usually cyclical. It can last for a few days. For them, it took them a while to admit to themselves that they could afford to sleep -- after realizing they couldn't afford not to. (Social damage, work responsibility, etc.)

You might want to have your heart checked though -- all sorts of little things like flutters and irregular beats can make people tired.

Also systemic candidiasis can wear people out, but it doesn't sound like you describe.
Keep talking to people and doctors to gather ideas. Tiredness is one of those symptoms that could have all sorts of reasons.
