There is no requirement that you get rid of secular music to pursue God.

I can tell you that when the Holy Spirit began to call me, I got the urge to dump all my music (was huge metal/prog fan), D and D/role playing stuff, posters, video games, books, movies that I felt had any kind of demonic or satanic or evil theme to them in any way. This was my experience, and I still am happy I did it. It was really really hard to throw out at the time as it represented a significant financial investment, but I am so glad.

The real benefit I got was that I had less distractions, and was able to put my face in the bible and read and journal and meditate on God's word.

I also believe that secular influences tend to muddle my mind, confusing the instruction I glean from my study time.

If I were you, I would buy a couple compilations of modern WORSHIP music. At first, I was embarrassed when I was in church and they would play these, but after singing with others and hearing the message in the songs I have come to truly enjoy playing this music at home in the car, whereever.

God Bless.

Dump all my secular music....thanks...So whatt ype of only Christian music should i listen to??

Loneburro- I've participated in the thread you're talking about. I- as well as a few others- said it was perfectly acceptable for a Christian to listen to secular music. Sacred music is simply music used by the Church in its services. So long as the non-sacred (i.e. secular) music you listen to isn't anti-Christian with its lyrics- then you're fine. That leaves you with a lot of music you can listen to. Just because one or two people said it (and everyone else disagreed with them- for the record) that's suddenly turned into Christians aren't allowed to listen to secular music? Use common sense and discernment.

I'm learning so much...I'm just asking questions (which as far as I know Jesus doesn't mind that...)
