• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Dear Members:
I am 25 years old and extremely lonely. I live with my mother and sister, but I need friends. I need love in my life, that it hurts even telling you about it. I met a couple of ladies at the church that I been attending, but there is so bonding that feel from these ladies. When look at me they wonder why I do not smile a lot. The reason is that I feel empty and I do not think God understands. I feel this way not because of the holiday season, I feel this way because of this empty feeling in my heart. Not being able to connect with another woman not having a male friend. Do not know where to go other church to find friends. Does any one have any advice for lonely yound woman who is in a crisis right now.

hey I just wanted to say that God probably does understand more than you think...I know that jesus had times when he felt lonely and had no one to turn to...like the night when he was arrested, he went of to pray and when he returned his disciples had fallen alseep, he was trying to cope with what he knew was gonna happen and they were all asleep! I know it might seem like he doesn't understand or that he can't/won't do anything about it but take all your lonelness and emptyness to him and pray for someone good to come into your life...

Have you tried Craigslist? They have social groups that go out and do stuff together. I know that they have a lot of co-ed sports leagues if you're into that. I've also seen knitting clubs and other such groups looking for members.
I do not want to try a online website like that.

Hi jenn,

I'll do my best to pray for you. Thru your words i can sense your pain.

Have you ever given any thought as to why this is?

I figure if you can see or find a reason, maybe then you could address it.

Just a thought.

I'll be praying for you.
You can bet on it.

Chuck.

First of all I'd like to say hello, and secondly I would like to say that what I am about to say may not be what you are expecting to hear. But, in my experience with loneliness I have found that sometimes when we are in the depths of the struggle and so very focused on what to do to get out, it causes even more stress and we just can't seem to find our way out, and lots of time because of what you are feeling you are so very unlikely to want to pray about anything.

I found myself in a similar situation and forced myself to pray on it, take it to GOD, and let him handle it. During my time of prayer the personal revelation that came to me was to look around in my life....and find all the things that I was thankful for...all the things that made me smile and created happiness in my life. It was as if during my reflecting on what GOD had already provided me with he relieved my stresses and only then was I able to see a door that he'd been opening all along.

It's truly amazing what prayer can do.

I remember a time in my life when I felt that way. I was away at college in seattle and just didn't meet very many people and those that i did meet were so different than me (their idea of being social was offering to share a joint). It took me a very long time to meet and make some friends. Now that I'm older, I find that the only thing that really makes me feel good about friendships is giving.....finding ways to make people happy. I tend to lean toward helping teens (my son's friends seem to come to me with problems since he died). I trust kids and it's easier for me to relate to them. I don't know if this helps you any, but you might try volunteering somewhere. It may help take away the emptiness you feel.

I did pray to God for help concerning my finances, which has been troubling me since I graduated from college in 2004. I still haven't found any solution to it. Now, I am living with my mother and I want to have my own place again in a better community. I just do not understand why he won't help me. We argue all the time, as well as with my older sister. Regarding relationships, it is difficult for me right now to make friends. I try to be out going at my church's young adult ministry, but no luck there.

I was volunteering at my churchs ACTS Ministry. It is based on the book of Acts on how they helped their community with clothing and other necessities. I wish I was volunteering again, but since I got a new job, I can't.

To be honest I do not know why these things are happening. I just need some love in my life and I do not have it. Sometimes I need something to do so I would not feel like this or pray and read my bible to fill the void. Last night I tried to read my bible and I got frustrated and I stop reading because it wasn't helping with the pain.

The thing of it is, when you're feeling lonely to the point where it hurts, it is hard to pray.

Those are the times i feel christian brothers and sisters should pray for you.

I'll definitely be doing that.

To be alone is one thing, but to be lonely, is another.

If you see I'm on-line you can PM me anytime you'd like.

Take Care.
Chuck.

Hi,
We used to have some christian coffee houses around here, they're a nice place to go and hear music, and meet people.

Do you have anything similar around where you live?

Chuck.

jenn - I have been alone for a very long time now. I know the feeling of being empty inside and how difficult it is to be alone in your life... I'm really sorry you are struggling right now... Father, I ask you Lord, to bring Jenn peace in her heart and contentment in her life, please Lord Jesus, take the loneliness from her. Amen.

I do not know if there is any in New York City, I know there was one in State College, PA known as Abba House.
