• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi,

I love this part of the forum, but I always find after reading a couple of posts my head hurts! You guys use so many big words! Do you ever have conversations made up of words with less than 5 syllables (sp?)????

I have grown up (christian speaking) in the Sydney diocese of the anglican church. I have been to all the conferences, read the books, and my hubby has been to bible college - he probably knows your words - and yet I come here and you use words I've never heard of as if they are everyday things. Even the younger memebers!!!! It astounds me! Maybe I'll have to pull down my hubby's calvin books and have a read one day!

Wishing I had a larger vocabulary to better appreciate this part of the forum

erin;)

Hey Erin!

Yeah, we Reformers like to throw around big words to confuse outsiders. ;)

Heh, just kidding. I know that I, for one, could be much better about adding parenthetical defitions for the terms. That would help readers that aren't familiar with them to understand the discussion.

I think you made a good suggestion, Erin. I'll take it to heart. :)

Soli Deo Gloria

Sorry - I wasn't meaning to have a go at you guys so much as me. I think it's amazing that you all know all this stuff. I wish I knew half of it. Don't curb your discussion for me.

Perhaps we could have a 'for people who like little words' thread once a week or something!

Love the diminuitive comment by the way!

From a Calvinist? I find that usually that word is directed to a Calvinist.

Maybe it was being used in a quotation. I don't recall. I do recall that it was from the lips of a reformed brother. First time I saw it, I had to go look it up.

Almost everytime I read or post here I have another window open with an online dictionary (English-German translation service) because my mother tongue is not English....
