Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.
Whatever you say Silvio maybe we should let others weigh in. You're quite the package yourself. You're some cookie, Michie.
Fact is the vast majority of your spam thread never get passed the very modest 10 post mark. So, for all your claims that they promote activity, the reality is quite different.
In fact I daresay when some come into OBOB and see it sprawled with your link threads they leave within seconds.
Is this me fighting? Or is your defensive reaction seeing it as fighting?
You are the one who opened this can of worms and now that the lid is off it might not be so easily closed again...
A blessed Easter to you as well. We are just looking or a compromise here. *I think*What is up with people resorting to personal attacks in this thread? Unbelievable, to say the least. Those of you who are attacking members should really be ashamed of yourselves. Grow up. Or maybe it's time to retire from the internet.
I don't really read Michie's news threads, but I also don't really see them as spam. When I think of spam I think of "hello, my name is Ugluk and I am from Mordor. Please support our cause by donating all your money to the glorious and illustrious Sauron on Mt. Doom." That is spam. Questionable articles? Perhaps so, but all media articles are highly questionable. It's why I really don't bother to read most news articles because many of them are written by those with an agenda, regardless of where the source comes from.
If people are seriously bothered by Michie's articles, then put her on Ignore or something. No one is forcing you to use the internet, let alone stumble into Michie's threads. If it's that controversial, then maybe we can do as some suggested earlier and make giant threads for topic-specific news articles (homosexual marriage, abortion, etc.).
Sometimes I wonder why people on here are so sectarian and political. No need to get frustrated over the internet. After all, there are real people out there in the world who are suffering, starving, being killed, and dying while we sit behind our fancy computers and argue about first-world problems. Makes me think that most have lost touch of reality. Perhaps we should all be dropped in a refugee zone or a slum for a reality check.
Have a happy Easter Michie and other folks of OBOB.![]()
No. If you have some reasonable suggestions to help. I'm listening. I'm throwing out 5 articles main & 5 political. I'm asking if this will apply to everyone as well. It's a number Mike threw out in another thread. So you've had enough of me and I'm to be quiet now?
Unbelieveable...![]()
I've taken a month of before Wols. Several times. Same thing. I come back to a loaded PM box. What do you think of 5 main & 5 politics?Mich, I have always valued the things you post. I've gotten a lot of good info from them over the years and they're certainly not something that I would have time to surf around for on my own. My take is to leave things as they are, but I can certainly understand why you'd get tired of both the work of finding the material to post, and then the bickering that results from them. I'm as guilty of being a provocateur as much as anybody else, and I'll admit it....the political polarization that has been growing in the country ever since 2008 has spilled over into a lot of things, this forum included.
Why don't you try this: on Easter Sunday, stop posting all topics for discussion---no more links at all, for one month, and see what happens. Either people will post other things to talk about, or the forum might dry up and get boring---turn into nothing but prayer requests and meatless recipies, you never can tell. At the end of a month, people might be begging you to start posting links again so the forum has more interesting topics to talk about.
That's my suggestion, anyway. Try it and see what happens. If nothing else, you deserve a break for a month, as much as anybody else. FTR, I appreciate everything you do in here---you've kept this forum alive, IMHO, from the days when the Great Rapture of the Veterans happened and we lost all the old-timers like Michelina and VOW and KC Catholic and AngelAmidala and nyj and Miss Shelby. And there have been others who have been on again-off again like ZooMom and me.
Back in the day, this was a superb Catholic apologetics forum, where anybody could come and ask questions about the Catholic Faith, and there were people here who could give them solid, reliable information; we don't have so much of that any more. Sometimes people still come here and ask questions, but they're liable to get the gamut of opinion from conservative to liberal, whether it's in conjunction with the Church or not. The threads usually then dissolve into the intra-Catholic bickering across the political spectrum, and the poor confused questioner who asked the original question is left out in the cold, wondering what's going on.
I realize that that goes way back to 1999-2000, when Erwin was still in charge (I miss you, Erwin! Blessings, wherever you are!), and there's been a lot of water under the bridge. But it would be kinda nice if we could get back to something similar to that now.

Lower?
Well therein lies the question. Are we all going to limit the topics to discuss if they come from a source? If people will be happier without the articles, test the theory. See how long it takes after you walk away for a few months before someone else complains that there's no activity. If nobody complains then everyone's a winner because you no longer have to supply any activity and waste your time and energy or emotions and they don't have to have discussions about anything. Then again you're not the only one posting links or articles but you're the only one catching heck for it.
I never hear from most until I disappear for awhile.A loaded pm box? and i think 5 is a good #
I just came back from a break!!!This is what I was thinking. Take a break. All of what you said except the length of time you've been here, applies to how I think of this.
