The grocery store shelves always surprise me too. The milk, bread, and water are all gone but doesn't look like they touched the dry beans, rice and flour.
These are the same people that poke fun at preppers.

Perhaps because it is difficult to use rice, dry beans and flour if there happens to be a power cut.

I can live without beans.
Bananas and other fruits are very easy to dehydrate. Sprinkle a little sugar on them and they store even better.

Perhaps because it is difficult to use rice, dry beans and flour if there happens to be a power cut.
That is a main issue many forget to deal with. Yes you have rice, beans, and lots of dehydrated stuff. But you will need water... and lots of it, and some source of heat. Most effieicent would be a rocket stove type setup that uses a relatively small amount of fuel.
Also... we have a solar over that works all year round except in hurricanes and tornadoes.
