That doenst help determine if this movie is woke or just bad, or both.

Just look at Rings Of Power for instance. People hated the woke "DEI" elven and other 'races' situation and slagged it just for that. But even if the elves were racially pure and snow white (so to speak), the writing and storytelling was still just abysmal. They could have un-woken every aspect of it and it still would be garbage. Maybe same with Snow White?
To touch more on Rings, there was more to it than just race. Race was an issue, because it's supposed to be a mythology of Britain. But there was also what's considered a woke portrayal of characters like Galadriel. Plus social and political themes that are considered woke.

I've only heard one brief review of Snow White that give the same sort of criticism.

The written reviews of Snow White on IMDb might shed more light on what's disliked about it.
The written reviews are what we're talking about. If you actually read them, a significant percentage of the negative ones appear to be written by AI (they use similar vocabulary, make similar arguments, and are structured like ChatGTP usually structures responses), and they're mostly posted by accounts that have never reviewed another movie. Those are hallmarks of "review-bombing" rather than legitimate critical reviews.

Yes I agree on the other "woke" bits. But still, the worst offense by far was that the basic storytelling - with awful writing at the center - was just terrible.

If you want to test how much "woke" this and that affects the outcome for fiction, see how it fares within a strong coherent story with crisp non-stupid writing. Then we'll know.

I know it's review bombing the same as Rings etc. I think it's review bombing over it being woke. But I'm not all that vested in a movie that there's a 99.999% chance I'll never watch.

To be fair, this film was already in production way before the Republicans took back the vote.
And it was a lower way before the Republicans took back the vote. Ask Bud Light how things went for them under the Biden administration when they made Dillian Mullaney their mascot.

The lion's share of criticism seems to be over it being woke.

That just shows us how invested people are in the culture wars bickering.

I mean, I actually agree with most of those anti-woke critiques. But to suggest that those were bigger problems that the abysmally bad basic storytelling just tells you how much people have an axe to grind.

Right - my point was that a movie or show getting review bombed just means that it managed to annoy at least one trollish corner of the internet, and thus the low rating is meaningless.

What about all the reviews on X and YouTube etc?

Well the complaints regarding aspects such as the story telling are blamed on Disney going woke with it.

I don't care enough to dig through them, but some are probably insightful criticisms, while others are probably just re-hashes of the same AI-written junk in the IMDb reviews. Again, my only point was that touting the low aggregate review score on a platform that's been review-bombed is meaningless. That doesn't mean that it's a good movie (I wouldn't know - I haven't seen it, and I have no plans to see it); it just means that your argument that it's bad is flawed.

I think RottenTomatoes is a better judge, since their critic reviews are generally from 'actual' critics that some actual publication has hired to do film reviews.

Critical reviews not good
Audiences generally happy.
That's Hollywood for ya.
I mean, it's a G-rated re-tread of a classic. Nobody thought it was gonna be Citizen Kane, and people will take kids to see it regardless of what critics say.

I'm just saying it's likely the main reason behind the negativity, whether from one person or one million, is over it being woke.

A $250 million dollar movie only raked in $87 million internationally. You'd think they would have learned their lesson after the failed Star Wars: The Acolyte series. But alas, you go woke, you go broke. Is this yet another message to progressives that people are not really buying what they are selling? In this case, literally.
Oh well! There are bigger fish to fry!

American movies generally are more and more boring and without any real creativity or originality. Tons of effects cannot balance the still same plot patterns, same speech patterns, silly joking, forced diversity etc.

I rather watch French, Scandinavian, Italian, Japanese, Korean... production, because it is simply something culturally fresh to me.

Oh come on, the remake of Spiderman was good, as was the remake of The Incredible Hulk, and the remake of The Transformers, and the remake of Total Recall, and the remake of Red Dawn, and the remake of 21 Jump Street, and the remake of...
