  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Today is V-day.

In a few months time I'll be able to answer questions like "why don't you guys have kids?" with "because we can't have them" *insert sad look, to end the discussion once and for all.*

My husband had the snip this morning, and as far as I can tell it went well. It only took 15 minutes, from entering the surgery department to leaving the hospital.

He's recovering now. He just told me he's feeling OK.

We're both very happy about it. Had a bottle of champagne when we came back from the hospital, and pastries.

When we left, we saw another couple entering the waiting room (where I had waited - husband was helped as soon as we came in - that's unusual over here), and I suspect they are childfree as well because they were so young (most people don't become parents until they're in their late twenties/early thirties over here - except perhaps extremely conservative protestant christians, and we don't have many of those in my region, and this couple didn't look like they were that conservative), and I overheard that he was getting the snip, too. So we're not alone.

Congratulations Rebekka! (And Rebekka's husband! :D)

But then you'll get patted on the arm with the sympathetic look and, "Don't worry, you can always adopt!" ^_^

Thanks snooch!

LOL - yes I suppose the adoption thing could come up (or the reversal) - but over here, the age gap between the child and the oldest adoptive parent must be less than 40 years. My husband is 41. The adoption procedure takes at least a few years. This means that adopting a child under 5 is out of the question. And I don't think many people will suggest adoption of an older child to people who don't have the wish to procreate (I think adoption of older children is more difficult, so it's for experts/people who really want to help these children - not so much for people who want children because babies are so cute - which is the shallow reason why many bingos are made).

I'm actually looking forward to getting a bingo (not just for the game, but yes, that too! :D ), so that I can say that we can't have children. I want to know how people react.

Or if they know your husband got snipped, "You can always get it reversed. They're getting more succesful."

Congrats Mr Rebekka on the big snip! And congrats to you, too, Rebekka. :D Just make sure to follow all of the after care rules and he'll be fine.

I don't know if all men experience this post-V, but for about two years afterward, every now and then, out of the blue, I would get the briefest (less than a second) sharp pain "down there." It happened on average about 3 times per month.

Hasn't happened in over a year now!

That's happened to me for two years (next month) since having my hysterectomy, too. My doctor said it was the muscles that had to be cut in that area growing and strengthening again. I really have no idea if it would be the same with a vasectomy though.

hello, I have chosen to have children myself but I just wanted to make you aware to really take seriously using the back up methods for a while, and not just the pull-out method, because I am living proof vasectomy's don't always take...

i am a post-vasectomy, pull-out baby, lol, so just make sure to use back up method's until your husband goes in for his first follow up to make sure everything took.

Oh! I hope my husband won't have this! I'm going to tell him, though. Thanks for the warning! His doctor hasn't told him.

Thanks for your concern, but you needn't worry - as my husband and I are childfree, we've always been VERY careful and we will continue to be careful until the doctor has told us that he's 100% sterile. I think all the childfree posting here have their own reliable method of birth control, as for us a surprise pregnancy would be pretty devastating (unlike people who want to have children in the future anyway).

Interesting, my husband had the same thing. I thought it was just him.

 You are so right. So many people don't follow doctor's orders and have little surprises like that. I know we were SUPER careful after my husband's vasectomy.
