I am chronically addicted to snapchat (my only means of a social life) and I think it is affecting my prayer life.

How can I change that? How can I have a more robust prayer life?

Thank you

Since my birth in to Christinanity I have deleted all my social media……for me it was the evil ones playground and played havoc with my mental health. I sat for hours of an evening wrapped in chains of sin, scrolling through negativity, mob culture, social courts and idolatry. Once I openly requested forgiveness and felt the holy spirit consume me I removed everything I could that I was bound by. From this moment on, I pray that my love for God keeps me on the narrow path.

Social media is for the most part thriving on sin.

I'm addicted to Christian Forum. I have no idea what "snap chat" is but if you are spreading the Gospel then go for it! You have already read the Bible, I am sure, so now spread the Good News. The Apostles never read the Bible, just an FYI.
Blessings

Get rid of it and any other similar apps. Social apps are a waste of precious time. They tie up a person's mind and send it in directions that are unimportant and unproductive. I don't know anything about Snapchat, but I know many people, many Christian people, who are basically addicted to Facebook. It's their go-to.

As Gentle Lamb said, read your Bible. Get a Bible app. There are many good ones out there. Check into e-sword or The Word for your computer or tablet. They're both free and are great Bible study tools. Immerse yourself in those things when you're at loose ends.

Do you attend church? Go to Bible studies, get involved in church activities. Get a hobby that keeps you occupied and pray as you tend to it. It's easy to pray when our hands are kept busy doing something constructive. :)

I try to read the Bible daily. I only read it from cover to cover once. Thanks for the response, Maria.
God bless you

Maybe you should delete it and focus on your Bible app or reading your paper Bible. I've had problems with YouTube. Quitting cold turkey might be your solution.
It's the only way I keep in contact with friends, that's the problem. I should read the bible more, that's true. I prefer the physical book rather than the app. IMHO

I think social media has negatively impacted my mental health, that's true. Thanks for your testimony.

I wish I could help, but I'm kind of addicted to Facebook myself, and for similar reasons. I am part of a handful of Christian groups and so my feed is usually bustling with verses, insights and encouragement from other Christians. Which isn't necessarily bad. But it's a little hard for me to let go of it totally. Recently I realized I need to tone it down a bit, I'm using it far too much. God bless you

Well, first is to delete the app, and second is to just use SMS/texting to talk to your friends instead of a dedicated social media. A lot of creepy stuff can sadly be sent via Snapchat from what I have heard, as photos sent in that app can be set to delete themselves after viewing. When I was in highschool, Snapchat became popular amongst guys and gals alike, and I didn't use it, and never will. TikTok is even worse, and once again, that stuff is not for me. :) Try watching a few movies on a streaming service in the evening, to take your eyes off Snapchat. Then, pray each night and ask God to help you with your social media addiction. Eventually, dial down the time spent on even movies, and go outside to pray. I sadly watch too much sci-fi on the weekend, when I should go to church more often. So yeah, we both have addictions that we must overcome.

Write a list out, of 5-10 questions you have about the Bible, about Jesus, anything. Use the new time to do your own research and not rely on the teachings of others, the Bible is the best teacher.
2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

When I got saved, I deleted all my social media, even deleted all my secular music playlists. Even still it took me a long time afterwards to really complete this as I still played a lot of video games. I now no longer play video games, and spend so much more time reading the Word, and doing research. We must remember we are in the world, not of the world, and must not be a part of it's sinful ways.

Luk 9:62 Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.

I should pray about praying more myself. But I don't think what you're doing on snapchat is a bad thing at all. I believe God created us to be social and to fellowship. Even if being social and fellowshipping doesn't come easy in the conventional sense. Most of my socializing and fellowshipping is online as well. Maybe a way to look at is, in the Gospels how much time did Jesus spend talking to people compared to how much time He spent in prayer?

I think when one sees a verse like "and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying." Luke 2:37 we feel convicted and think that's what we should be doing as well. But there's no indication that Jesus, the Apostles and the disciples followed that same regimen. And perhaps even the Saints for that matter.

Thank you for your response. I definitely need to pray more despite my daily prayer routine. You are all in my prayers

God bless
