When I became a Christian, two to three days after I was in a Church service, and when I left, I tried to smoke. I could light the smoke, but my mouth would freeze, and I couldn't inhale. It was amazing. That was seven or so years ago.

By His Grace,

I'd just like to say that while I understand how hard it is to quit smoking (tho I quit after only 7 years), I'm not exactly sure that waiting passively for God to do something about it is the right approach. God works miracles, to be sure, but more often than not, He works them through people. Sooner or later, to quit, you're going to have to go through withdrawl. It is God that will lead you through this time. If you devote yourself to quitting, with firm reliance on God, you will succeed. A smoker should not keep on smoking and trust that eventually God will simply take away his urge any more than someone addicted to sex or pornography should keep on buying porn and shrugging it off by saying "God will eventually free me." God wants you to take the initiative. He'll do the rest.

Beloved Brothers and Sisters:

I would choose not to say if your smoking is a sin or not a sin.
There is one who knows that answer and it is me.

My guess is that he has already told you the answer to the question
and you know it too.

I have been Sober and Clean from drugs for going on 20 years
Jesus done that.

Haven't had a cigarette in 16 years
Jesus done that too!

Yes my Lord set me free! He moved the mountain!
But you want to know something?
The day that the mountain was to be moved he said to me:
"George get a shovel"
"A shovel Lord?"
"It's a big mountain George you don't want to dig with your hands"
"I thought you were going to move a mountain today Lord"
"I am my son and I choose you to use the shovel"
"So how does that make you the one moving the mountain Lord?"
"I will give you the strength to keep shoveling my son!"

So rather than say is this a sin or not a sin let me say this
Since I have walked the path before and maybe have borne some
of the steps before. If you wake up one day and the Lord tells you to grab
a shovel let me know I still have mine and will help you dig.

In other words

If any of you who are struggling with this addiction or any other one want some help, a friend someone who has done it before to talk to. I am here.
Yell, scream, cry what ever you need to I am here and will help and pray for you.

That I can do in Christian love

Because you are my brother
Because you are my sister!

Blessings

Pastor George:wave:

I'm 15 and to be honest. I did smoke at one point. When I was in 7th grade. I hang around with a group who thought it was the cool thing to do. My asthma got progressively worse because of it and I almost died because of an asthma attack. It took my getting saved that year to change me.
I couldn't bear to smoke a cigarette now. Now that I see the effect it is having on my parents. My father is 75 and my mother is 52, both smoke over a pack a day and are having major health problems. Including brain disorders due to nicotine withdraw. Please don't smoke...Ever. I guarantee it will only cause you grief and anyone that wants to light something on fire and suck in the smoke that comes out is definitely ignorant to what the consequences are.
Love in Christ,
Erica

Isn't the "smoking is filthy, bad, disgusting, etc." talk becoming a bit redundant by now? I don't know of a single person who smokes and does not know the downside.

As to whether or not it is sin, there have been many quotes from 1Cor3:16. Of interest is when Paul uses "the Spirit of God dwells in 'you'", the "you" is humeis, which is 2nd person plural, as in "you all", not 1st person singular. He means you, Corinthians collectively.

Also the 1Cor chptr 6 version is preceded by an interesting vs, 18. "Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without (outside) the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body." Per this verse, apparently, only fornication is a sin which we commit against our body, not smoking.

Mark 7:15 "There is nothing from without (outside) a man, that entering into him can defile him; but the things which come out of him (his heart), those are they that defile the man."

Thoughts from an ex-inhaler! BHG, I agree with you to wait on the Lord. As was with me, God in His time, by His grace took the habit away from me. Therefore ALL glory could go to him, not my *will power*.
