smacking children

Kira, I agree with you that there's a difference between a slap and abuse, but after what I've gone through AND knowing how much I DETEST disrespect and rude behavior, I simply don't trust myself to get physical at all. I do take the kids by the hand or shoulders or face and make them look at me and they don't move until I say so, but I haven't had to actually give anyone a spanking. Since they aren't my kids, I wouldn't feel comfortable with that anyway! But my sister gives my nephew a spank on the bum now and again and it doesn't faze me. (He's such a little devil, he usually laughs anyway and she has to resort to something he REALLY doesn't like - taking his toys away!)

I can remember being smacked lightly maybe three times when i was young, i'm fifteen and i have an awesome relationship with my parents. I think that smacking lightly so that it doesnt leave a mark is good because a young child has such a short attention span that explain things wont work very well well, its more the jolt that makes them think oh that wasnt nice I wont do that again.
Pretty sure the law is just against hitting above shoulders which you shouldnt do anyway.
Its the parents decision not to smack or not if you have been physically abused and it affects you or if you tend to accidently smack a bit too hard if you are angry it might be best to use other forms of disipline.
Im only 15 so i dont have kids, maybe I will have to re-think it when i become a parent.

Also it shoudln't be the regular form of punishment, some parents smack their kids everytime they do something wrong. Kids would become unfazed where as if they push teh boudiries repeadtly and no other form of disclipline will work one nice snack on the bum is the last thing they are expecting and it porbably work, usually once they know their boundries from then u usually wont have to do it again. I mean alot of people posting says they were onyl smacked once or twice.... (I know their are other stories but I mean being smacked the way I'm talking about)

i believe smacking your children is good to a point.. but when the child get slapped across the face for crying or something like that i don't think its right.

i believe i was hit 2 much when i was a child i needed the discipline but not to be hit so much that i'd became depressed and suicidle and so forth at the age of 8 9 or 10 can't really remember when...
