  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Actually, I'm the Georgian. He's the Gregorian.

But I can see how you could be confused!

And also, I'll agree with you that Manson innit exactly the most Christian of folk.

The Georgian, you're not making any sense to me. I know I shouldn't be listening to secular music, but it's tempting... you know. And don't you think that God is watching you while you listen to Marilyn Manson?

I know that I'm being watched while I listen to Marilyn Manson... but I realize there is good in everything. Even Marilyn manson has very good messages sometimes. but you have to understand the true message for it to be acceptable.

I try to avoid songs that cuss and stuff. Sometimes I can't help hearing the songs with cuss words because my brother has it playing all the time, and if I turned it off, my brother would just get mad at me, (and depending on his mood) hit me in the arm or something, then turn it back on.

And what's wrong with a word? If you stub your toe and yell "Oh sh-t" is it wrong? If the vowel is an "i" you'd say yes... but who's offended by "Oh Shoot?" What's wrong with the letter "i?" They both have the exact same meaning... they're just an exclamitive... nothing wrong with the word itself.

However, you're offended by "cuss words" therefore, they are profain, and therefore you should avoid. For YOU... marilyn manson isn't good music. I'm not offended by any specific word, because I take into account the whole thought he's trying to get across without stopping due to a dirty word.

Also... if your brother hits you for turning off his music... that's not good... instead of turning off his music... simply put the "safety dance" on repeat in your room. Tell him you'll turn off your music if he'll turn off his.... if he tries to be stubborn... trust me... your parents will make you turn off both. Moral or not, no one can stand the safety dance more than a few times in a row... it's just... not right.

And honestly, I don't know if this is what he did, but I thought I saw Marilyn Manson tear pages out of a bible and throw it into the crowd or something and that kind of made me think that he's Satanic or something. I saw this on a Christian program once. I may be wrong. Forgive me if I am. It may have been a different book. But I don't know.

It wouldn't surprise me. Manson has a very poor concept of faith... that doesn't make his music any less interesting. Ever hear the expression: don't judge a book by it's cover? You're not even getting to the cover, you just see what someone else thinks of the author and judging from there. Very unwise.

Why do so many people buy into this absurdity? Hey Spartan4Christ, relax, okay? You're not compromising your faith by listening to music that isn't sold at your local Christian bookstore, okay?

If you feel that you must make the personal decision to not listen to secular music, that's cool. But, don't make that decision just because your Youth Pastor said so. I'm not telling you to rebel against leadership, either. Investigate on your own. Ask yourself, "Why am I being told that non-Christian music is wrong?" Pray about it. Ask God to guide you...
Very wise. I agree... if you decide to blindly follow someone (a youth pastor, for example), that's your own poor decision... don't encourage anyone else to follow your example. You'd be much more wise to make the decision for each band by itself.... like I pointed out before... system of a down is good music... as a christian I honestly can't think of a single thing they say that is at all unchristian... just because they're 'secular' doesn't mean they're 'evil' and to assume so is to judge them as evil... something the bible forbids (I refer to the illustration to 'remove the rafter from your own eye before attempting to pull the straw from your neighbors'... a very graphic moral).
Hit him back...
awww, but striking is so brutal... Take an Aiki class and ask to learn a defense against a jab. after a couple Lop Sous into a Taki and a simple wrist lock, your brother won't hit you anymore... plus that doesn't leave any bruises.
No, you're right. He did employ that in his show at one time, but it doesn't make him a Satanist. I'm making a wild presumption here, but, if I had to guess, I'd say that Marilyn Manson was probably picked on in high school. Stuffed in one-too-many lockers. Maybe he turned to the Church, and found the same rejection there. ???
Exactly. a little off topic, but it's a fact that more women are raped when ice cream sales go up... but it's not due to the ice cream... it's because ice cream sales go up during the summer when women wear less clothing and walk around alone at night.... ice cream is not the real cause. Likewise, when people blame things on manson, it just proves how little they understand. They actually blamed the columbine shootings on Manson because he's 'EEEeEEEeeEVILlLlL' and that caused them to be violent... which isn't the case at all... it's not BECAUSE of the music that they were violent... it's because they were violent that they enjoyed the music. The most ironic part is how manson reacted to the columbine shooting... watch "bowling for columbine" some time. RIGHT after the shootings, the NRA came and spat in the face of all those who died... manson cancled his tour there out of respect. Because he shows respect, manson has earned my respect.

Actually, I'm the Georgian. He's the Gregorian.

But I can see how you could be confused!

yarr, harr, harr. I'll agree with that too... Manson's faith is NOT something to be emulated... but there are SOME very good messages that can be taken from his music. Example: don't pick on scrawny little nerds... they'll end up freaking out on you. (have you ever seen manson without makeup on or contacts in... honestly... picture a scrawny little nerd with a REALLY huge REALLY jewish nose... that honker is GARGANTUAN.)

Okay, I guess I'll pray about it. But the the other day, I was wondering why I was convinced that all secular music is bad, and I couldn't figure out why. And about hitting my brother back... no way. He's a lot bigger than me. I wouldn't have a chance fighting him. That's what it would probably turn into if we both kept trying to get even. But, I don't see why a church would reject someone. I'm not saying it hasn't happened, but I don't see why they would. One more thing, I'm through arguing about what music is good or bad. You probably won't see me posting on this thread anymore. I don't want to get frustrated with arguements here. I'm already mad enough at school. Stupid little kids causing trouble.

Later.
