From the slipknot that I've heard, I'd say that they're talentless shock-rock. Even Marilyn is better than them. And koRn... well... they're in a class by themselves...

As far as music affecting people goes... It's the individual's responsibility to make the 'right' choices in life. And if listening to slipknot, googoo dolls, or Elvis Presley feeds someone's preexisting propensity toward maniacal, homicidal rampage, then, yeah... they need to stay away from that, find a good doc, etc...

Speaking as a guitarist, they have no talent. Tuning to dropped C and sliding from a chord to its 5th to its 3rd and back to the tonic isn't hard; I can't imagine the useless things they sing about.

As for marketing... they're appealing to the propensity of human beings to feel self-pity and self-loathing... trying to shock people in ways that have been done before. I once saw a young man with a Slipknot shirt, and remarked, "Slipknot? Are they a KISS cover band?" I think I saw smoke come out of his ears! :D

Just like a teething stage... they will be grown out of. :sigh:

I don't think any music is a serious problem for kids leading them down the wrong path, and I really don't think Slipknot is. I've not listened to much of their music...what I have...it's ****...but that's regardless. Music is not the fault of the screw-ups of kids and people. We make our own decisions. Music may make us think about things...but it's not to blame for anything we do or don't do. As far as Slipknot boys being Christian...I dont' know...my sister's fiancee is (/was...i don't know if they talk much anymore) close friends with one of them...so my guess is I would like them as people...good guys, I'm sure.
