I dont know where to put this but not sure if other people experience the same thing..

My mum talks in her sleep. Sometimes its really loud like shes having an argument with someone. I cant really understand what shes saying as its in cantonese. It could be shes just talking normally as cantonese cadence does sound like you having an argument but she sounds really agitated.

It is enough to wake me up at times! I sleep in the next room.

Shes not talking with spirits is she? I just dont know why she randomly does this. Nobody else in my family sleep talks that I know of.
Of course she denies it and says she doesnt but of course shes asleep at the time. Its just weird.

I suspect the lack of responses is because no one knows what you should do. It isn't even obvious that you should do anything. If you feel like you need to act, then logically, you first need to understand what is going on. Perhaps talk to a doctor about it.

I dont think a doctor would do anything. Why a doctor? Its not anything to do with me.
I just want to know if other people experience this, or what you do if say your husband or wife starts talking in their sleep and disturbing you. Since my dad works night shifts and doesnt come home till 4am it doesnt bother him so much.

There's doctors that specialize in everything imaginable. They have read about and talked to lots of people who experienced similar things. The right doctor would have the kind of information you are looking for. You might ask a geriatric doctor. Since it is not about yourself, you could probably just post in a medical forum where doctors answer questions.

Talking in one's sleep is apparently not that rare. I don't think it would normally be considered something that needs to be addressed medically—except that it is loud and bothering you at night. As you imply, the question is, what is causing it (e.g., stress) and/or is it a symptom of something more serious (e.g., onset of dementia). It could also be caused by something from long ago that is just showing up now.

My uninformed thought is that it would be more likely that she is talking because of a dream she is having rather than because of spirits are talking to her. Based on a little Googling, it is a form of parasomnia called somniloquy. The kind of people that would be familiar with it would probably be psychiatrists or medical personnel where sleep studies are done—where people who have unidentified sleep problems go to get diagnoses and treatment. (They typically monitor a person and record data over night.)

If you can't find someone knowledgeable to talk to, you could always ask her (or your) general physician for a reference.

I don't think so, I'm not going to the doctor if it costs $40 for a consult on something that isn't my issue.
As I already said, I asked mum who she was talking to in her sleep and she didn't know, so its not likely a doctor would know.

At first I thought cos it kept going on that she'd left her radio on. But no she was talking and she sounded quite angry. But I'm not going to get up out of my bed, wake her and tell her to shut up.
However its quite loud, like when we went on holiday, and I was sharing a bed and she was talking, and even my brothers and sister heard her in the next room.

Maybe she is stressed about something, but don't know what it could be.
