• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together.   • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey everyone! I went to the hospital for 24 hours and even tho that place sucks I did learn something really important from the doc. He said that we can't manufacture the "feel good chemicals" we need to function on a daily basis unless we get into that stage 4 deep REM sleep. He said those chemicals are only made when we dream. So, last night I made a special effort to sleep.

My neighbor is very noisy and if he keeps it up he'll be evicted. But I took the power into my own hands and stayed at a friends where I knew it would be quiet.

I took 2000 mg. of L-Tryptophan, 100 mg of 5HTP, 2000mg of Fish Oil, along with this stuff I get from the gym called SOMATOMAX. This stuff is expensive $52 per jar) but is worth it. It helps get you into REM sleep. It works. You can get it on Ebay even. I took a double dose and dreamt about all kinds of stuff!

So, here's to sleep everyone! :yawn:

I use white noise such as a fan in noisy circumstances to aid with sleep. For me it helped when I had sleep apnea diagnosed and my insurance paid for me to see a sleep counselor who believes their is sleep disturbances with mood disorders and she helped me clean up my sleep hygiene. I actually have nights now when I only wake up a couple of times!!! :) Much better than the nights of 8-10 awakenings! :) She also instructed me in a better way to take melatonin if I need to and about how tv and computer bright light can actually mess up your natural body rhythms if viewed late at night! There was much more she helped me with. Like when to exercise, when and how to nap if at all, etc! It was great!

Recently I feel into such a fall funk and depression that my pdoc has me trying a light box for SAD and it is also WONDERFUL for me!!!! I am amazed as a bp 2 that it is helping and I am sleeping better and more alert during the day! It shocked me that it helped! Next stop is with my TMD Clinic to get an obstructive airway splint for those nights when my CPAP mask drives me nuts and I take it off in my sleep!

the next step is for me to figure out how to stop going to the bathroom 10 times a night. The urge to urinate wakes me up so much it's ridiculous. I may try the Detrol LA.
I know the feeling. I am very good at drinking my 2 liters of fluid a day and boy it still goes thru you at night! :{
