Not a huge TES fan necessarily. I play Morrowind and Oblivion some. I actually forgot while playing Fallout 3 and Fallout:New Vegas that Bethesda made those games. I randomly picked up a magazine some months ago that had early early preview information on Skyrim. After seeing the shots and hearing how pretty much every change was a change to all the stuff I hated about the old mechanics. I was hooked. Going with a friend to grab it Friday.

Steam is alright. the platform makes you log into steam before you can delete video games from your computer... lol? It's so horrible that way

There's nothing stopping you from deleting the files directly. Although that doesn't clean up anything in the registry.

For me, the convenience of pressing a few buttons to buy a game and have it magically download is much easier. Don't have to go to the store and hope they have it. Don't have to worry about losing or damaging the CD/DVD (which would prevent you from installing it). You get automatic updates and your games available anywhere and everywhere you install Steam. Most importantly: you don't get stuck with SecuROM or other shady/crap DRM. Yes, Steam itself is technically DRM, but it's DRM that actually works and isn't intrusive.

Also, Skyrim will be using Steam no matter what. The boxed set will require you to activate it on Steam. So, you will all be using Steam anyway. :)

i finly got a palysttion 3 and i got a $50 gift card for bying it at arget so that wull cover most of the cost of sky rim

but wo is me the system wont reckgonice the hdmi capble i bot buck black emptyness on evry chanel
I can help you with that.

If you have standard AV cables (the red, white and yellow), plug those in, set the PS3 up and turn it on. Also have your HDMI cable plugged into both the PS3 and the TV, but when you turn the TV on, make sure it's set to read from the standard AV cables.

Next, go into your PS3 settings, and scroll down to display settings. You'll want to change the settings to read from the HDMI. Once you finish setting that up and confirm, the screen will go black. You then need to switch the TV over to read from the HDMI port you have the HDMI cord plugged into. After a few seconds, your display should return in glorious HD.

Keep in mind that once the screen goes black, you need to change the TV over to the right HDMI input within 30 seconds or so, or it will go back to reading from the AV cords, and you'll have to do it over again. Once it's switched over, confirm it again, and you should be all set! Unplug your AV cords, and play away.

If you have any more problems, let me know.

I don't mind using Steam, but my gripe about it is what happened when one day Steam closes? As hard as it might be to think of, it's going to happen, and may happen sooner than later the way companies change.

Heck, just look at companies involved with gaming (or anything else) over the past 15 years... new companies are formed which run on a much better business model than the one before it. The company either closes or gets sold to another company and falters not long after.

So what happens then to the games you bought? Sure, you can keep the codes, but those codes are useless without an install iso.

You have the right on DRM though. I usually find a no-cd crack if there is a game like Dragon Age which makes you put the disc in to play.

I figure that by the time the Steam servers stop working, they will either make some kind of export feature, or the the games themselves will be completely irrelevant (i.e. won't even run on whatever OS is in use by that time).
That could happen much sooner than you think. There are already new companies starting that will compete with Steam. All it takes is one company to do things a little better and Steam will suddenly become the next Myspace. We live in a fast changing world.

By "new companies" do you mean EA and their failure known as Origin? Origin is brand new, and has had a terrible start (a lot like Steam actually...). Steam was released in 2003. It's been going strong and getting stronger for 8 years. Even if everyone else abandons Steam, Valve will keep using it. They don't really have an incentive to shut down Steam. The only way I could see it actually happening is if Valve goes out of business, which isn't going to happen any time soon.

No, not EA. Of all companies I hope to see destroyed, EA is the top. I find it quite blasphemous that EA decided to use the Origin name in such a way because Origin was one of the greatest gaming companies the world has ever seen. When EA bought them, they destroyed them...

Valve will remain strong for a while yet, I'm sure. But just like other gaming companies before them, it could only be a matter of time before they sell.
