Biography:
Philip's past is unpleasant. He was a born in a small village in Peria, this in itself was not a bad thing, it's timing, however was more than a little off. His mother's husband was at war in Anserak at the time, and had been for almost two years because of a rather lengthy political question as to whether it was Peria's responsibility or Eyrel's.
Before her husband returned the young mother gave her son to a man who claimed to be a seer.
"Great things are in store for the boy." He said "He will be a great warrior and rid the world of evil"
Of course this was an absolute load of hogwash but his mother needed an easy way out and he served the job nicely. The man sold the boy to a slave trader, the trader, dwelling as he did near the border of Peria, Eyrel and Anserak, possessing large guards and no scruples made a very good business training slaves for various professions and selling them for extremely high prices. Philip was taken through Anserak for the begining of his life, being trained for his life as a slave.
Philip was chosen as a nobleman's armor bearer and that is what got him the name "Faulconbridge"
The nine year old had virtually no time to spend with the nobleman as the day he arrived he was lost in a game of cards with a Vareisian swordsmaster.
The boy went with him back to Zlith in Vareisia, where he served as the fencing opponent with the rich boys who the master taught for years.
At the age of fifteen he had learned the art of the sword fairly well. However his education was cut short when a wizard who the swordsmaster owed a great sum of money arrived and, demanding cash on delivery, began to threaten him with words like
"Gratuitous Income taxes" "Inflating Insurance Policies" and "Democrats in office"
The swordsmaster, more intelligent than some, recognized these as extremely dangerous spells and immediately gave the wizard pick over whatever he could carry out.
The wizard chose Philip because he was the only thing not nailed down. It was revealed that said wizard was a skilled teacher for the University of Sal Kaddedin currently in Zlith because attempting to set up a university in Zlith. After learning the Philip could not cook, made him his aid during teaching. He fetched papers and such, however soon the wizard found the boy was fairly intelligent and allowed him to study the University during off hours.
History and government were, by far his best subjects and he excelled in them, it was after graduating the university that he left the wizards company, Philip attempted to become a swordsmaster but his temper, questionable history and problems with the local noble women prevented him from teaching others successfully.
Philip began working in one of the primary professions of Zlith, criminal. He was extremely good at making people see what he wanted them to and was one of the most succesful men in the hellish city. He was hired by the many street gangs to negotiate their turf disbutes, and often hired by the assassins guild of Zlith to deliver messages to their clients before their deaths. These missions required him However Philip was still young and ambitious so he was not happy as a relatively small time worker in Zlithian politics. He began to work as a "legitimate" member of society and attempted to break into the harsh world of political blackmail.
For a while he served as the Lord of Zlith's chief aid. (after having several serious duels with most members of the city, usually over women, and having him proven himself as one of the greatest swordsmen in Zlith,) Philip spent his time running the Lord of Zlith's circles, representing the Lord to all of the Guilds and Pirates in the city, allowing the Lord to only operate with the noble families. Eventually Philip's continued work with the common people led to his betraying the Lord of Zlith to try to break the abusive slave trade. When he failed, many people were killed, and Philip himself barely escaped with his life. This caused him to fall foul of the Lord of Zlith who then had him chased far from the city. He wandered far from Vareisia and returned to Peria.
In Peria he was soon found and recruited by the government, who were comrising an intelligence mission to Anserak so as to negotiate with the tribes of orcs. That mission, while extremely successful in its results, ended in only three people alive and so Philip found himself stuck in Peria with nothing to reccomend him but his skills, honed in violent intelligence missions to Anserak and years of intrigue and swordsmanship in Zlith.
In the citadel of Luben Philip was thrown into prison, after winning his freedom in a game of cards he left and, unfortunately, stumbled into the room where the governor was.
The governor was waiting for one of his aides and, as he did not know any of their faces, took Philip as one and instructed him to have a certain job done. Philip smelled opportunity and had it done well, soon he was an aid of the governor.
A year later he was the chief aid.
Over the years he has earned many titles, and more rumors. He is known as different things to different people, but it's well known that he is an unquestioned master of swordsmanship and one of the sharpest operatives not hired by a government.
