  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Please no DEBATE over what we each believe.

As Singles we may not think we need a will especially if we do not have children.
But there are definately a couple of other things we should think about.
I am not suggesting you need to tell us your thoughts but just want you to think.

Are you a organ donor?
AND Does your family know that?
I believe most people can accomplish this on a driver's license.

If you are in a coma or being kept alive by machines what would you want to happen?
AND Does your family know that?
I believe this is commonly called a living will.
There is also something called a DNR - "do not resuscitate" order.

Have you decided who should make decisions for you in the event you can not?
And does your family know who that is via a "Power of Attorney" document?

Caitlin, those are indeed some things to think about. I am an organ donor. I asked my mom and my sister to sign my card as witnesses and it is on my drivers license. I think it is an important thing to do... for you can't take your organs with you to heaven, might as well let someone have use of them. :)

It is the other issues I've not thought of so much. I've expressed my desire to be cremated when if I were to die before I marry and my family to be alive. My mom said 'No way, not over my living body'... but that was a few years ago, she now has changed her mind about it.

These are things that I find more difficult to think about and want to decide since I have no family of my own as a single. Thanks for bringing them up to think about.... I think. ;) :D

I have made sure my parents know cremation is my desire too.
I also have made sure my parents and siblings know I also do not want to be kept alive by machines.
My parents have also said the same thing for them.
Luckily we all are in agreement about these things.

I want all of my organs, kidneys, liver, heart, and eyeballs as I am an organ donor to be put in people that desparately needed and/or needs them because I think that I want to contribute much more to mankind as well as womankind before my work on earth is done and I am called to heaven.

I am in desperate need of going to the Lawyer that my dad uses to det up his Will, to set up my own living will, I do not want to be on any machines to keep me alive. God has given me the best insurance plan there ever was created. I have a home waiting for in in Glory and I am ready to go there right now. My dad and step-mom have given me the power to say when to "pull the plug" None of us are organ doners tho'. Most of mine would not be much good because of major illnesses than I have nade have damaged most of them.

My driver's license says I'm an organ donor.

However, from what I understand, your survivors get the final say on what happens to your organs, even if it's documented on your DL. So it's very important to let your family know your wishes.

I haven't done a living will thing. I've been told that the living will gives you more than just a "do you want to be kept alive by artificial means...check yes or no" type choice. You can choose which methods you would accept as keeping you alive (ex: no breathing tubes, but feeding tubes/hydration are OK.)

In my state of TN add $10 and they will put an organ donor thing on your license but I had mine marked on the license that I haven't paid the $10 just yet but will when mine is up for renewal in 2009!!

Wow... what an incentive to not be an organ donor if you're a bit hard on cash. In Iowa it's a free thing, just like they register you to vote if you wish.

If I remember rightly, you have to have another an actual organ donor card along side your license that says you are, but that was years ago at least, not sure if it's valid still or not.

Wow, that seems kind of stupid. Heck it only costs $10 to get your license renewed anyway here... they just ask if you want it on there. Of course like jenptcfan said it doesn't carry any legal authority so ultimately I don't guess it makes much difference.

Well not in the earthly laws but I would feel good to do something for someone who is less fortunate as well as needs the kidneys and all of that badly than for myself.
