  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

since we are not perfect, there is no need to improve or perfect ourselves...

Interesting thought, but let me ask you this. You get married. Once you are married, there is no reason to change, right? I mean, you might as well stay out all night and drink with the boys just like you always have, right? No, you change things about yourself because you love your wife and you want to please her (and stay married).

In the same way, we change and transform into the image of Christ because we love him and want to do his will. Does this mean we ever attain perfection? No. We still sin. But once we understand that each sin hurts ourself and others, why would we want to do it anymore if we could help it?

Short answer: God said, "Be holy, for I am holy."

Long answer: just like PRMan said, when you love someone you want to please them. When you love Christ, it is even more because we also want to obey him and be like him. He is the prime example of what humanity is, and we want that. We don't want to live life that is just good enough (or even NOT good enough!). we want to live lives that are rich, abundant, and joyful... and one of the ways to improve that is by improving ourselves and becoming more like Christ, and more like God always intended humans to be.

It depends on what your goals are, to honor yourself or honor God? Once we become Christians, the gratitude that we cultivate leads us to want to give back what we received. The greater the thankfulness, the greater the desire to please God. But if we're living to honor ourselves, we will try to become perfect in order to glorify ourselves which is not only doomed to failure, but it only increases our pride. Living to please God produces unbounded fruits of the spirit which only increases love, patience, humility, hope, joy, and self-control. Thus, our lives become more full of love, joy, peace, patience, hope, and self control with each new day. Nothing beats it!

I'm sure this view is not shared by most here, but oh well. I think we can be perfect. God said "Be holy, for I am holy," and Jesus told the woman caught in audultery to "Go forth and sin no more." God would not command us to do something we are not capable of doing.

Another way to look at it, every sin is a choice. It is up to us as to whether we sin or not. All we have to do is chose not to sin. (easier said than done, I know. I'm still working on it myself)

:prayer:

  WOW Another good topic. I just had to say something.

Yes we are not perfect, which would make us "IMPERFECT". But there is a time to change and repent and seek Righteousness. Im working on things, at heart im righteous, in the flesh im untouchable on my way to righteousness.

Everyone should repent, in the end you will feel alot better. For a woman to commit adultery is wrong, so a hug wouldn't hurt.

 O'father in heaven , Change the minds of the unrighteous and change the sinners to non-sinners. Behold : A TIME IS COMING WHEN THE WORLD SHALL REJOICE IN A RAINBOW AND SHOW RESPECT TO ONE ANOTHER AND SPEAK WITH THE MOUTH OF GOD
