  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sin is Sin!

If we say that we have no sin , we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:8-9 NAS)

What some may consider “little” or “harmless” sins can be our downfall, that is, “stretching the truth,” for example, is actually lying. Gossip is nothing less than character assassination. Working in the “grey areas”, between white and black is sinful.

The sad thing about it all is that, those little sins will inevitably grow into bigger sins, and before we know it, we’ll need to do some serious confessing, repenting, rebuking, and renunciation.

If some little sins have crept into our spiritual life, then it’s time to deal with them---now!

With the help of the Holy Spirit, we need to identify them---now!

Once we admit our guilt, confess our practices aloud to our Lord Jesus Christ, repent, and get rid of them before they ruin our entire life.

Today pull up the little weeds,
the sinful thoughts subdue,
Or they will take the reins themselves
and someday master you.

Sadly, the most deadly sins do not leap upon us they just creep up upon us.

Remember there is no little sins. Sin is sin.

I basically agree with the point of the OP, but for the sake of discussion it should be noted that life doesn't consist of neither black/white, nor grey. It's in full colour.

It's good to be mindful of our behaviour and intentions and the details, but if we look at life through the lens of the law, we'll fail miserably.

A good and holy life doesn't come about by constantly determining whether or not this or that is legal or illegal, but by abiding in the love of Christ :)

Hi Holo, thanks for you input, but sadly many work in grey areas between black and white, and evil and good. And many tell lies that border between black and white.

Yep, if you abide in our Lord Jesus Christ then how could you sin?

When you speak to some Christians who say that they are abiding in God, sometimes I wonder whether it's the little "g" and not the big "G".

Actually, life consists of all three--color, black and white, and grey:

COLOR--Is the Kingdom of God within and amongst us;

GREY
--Is the world around us--containing things both good and evil--which require the guidance of God's indwelling Spirit to help us choose rightly between that which is good and that which is evil.

BLACK and WHITE
--Are the guidelines which God has given us--His Commandments--to lead us safely out of the material world and into the Kingdom.

Yes, but I suspect we may disagree on what exactly those commandments are... :)

"...and this is his command, that we believe on him whom he has sent..." springs to mind. The law, as presented to/by Moses, was not intended to lead us safely into the kingdom, but rather to expose sin and make it exeedingly sinful etc.

MY BROTHER,

Yes, you are correct that "we may disagree on what exactly those commandments are". My Bible states,

Jesus said, "WHOEVER THEREFORE BREAKS ONE OF THE LEAST OF THESE COMMANDMENTS, AND TEACHES MEN SO, SHALL BE CALLED LEAST IN THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN; BUT WHOEVER DOES AND TEACHES THEM, HE SHALL BE CALLED GREAT IN THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN." (Matthew 5:19)

"BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO DO HIS COMMANDMENTS, THAT THEY MAY HAVE THE RIGHT TO THE TREE OF LIFE, AND MAY ENTER THROUGH THE GATES INTO THE CITY." (Revelations 22:14)

But keep in mind who Jesus was and who he was talking to and what covenant they were under. When he talked about the law, he certainly didn't address neither the gentiles nor those belonging in the new covenant, which was made in his blood.

If you had been able to live according to the law, then yes indeed, you'd be blessed by that. But you've violated the entire law (nevertheless, if you're not a jew you were never under it anyway).

Yep, violate just one small portion of the law and you've violated every single one of them. That's what the Law demands...perfection. We can't ever achieve that, so we rely on our Savior who COULD achieve it for us...then He died on the cross in our substitute so we could be forgiven!

Holo, you rock!

A friend reminded me of something today;

Jesus said that it was better for them that he leave, so that he could send the Spirit. Here we are, quoting the words of Jesus all the time, and probably thinking that "if only I were there then, I'd understand everything Jesus said, and how to apply it" - but I don't think so. Jesus himself explained to the guys from Emmaus who he was, from the scriptures. But they didn't get it. Until he did a miracle and opened their eyes.

Jesus was a jew, under the law, and he mostly taught other jews who were under that law. He even called the gentiles "dogs" and said he was sent only to "the lost sheep of Israel" - while Paul was called to "complete the gospel" and to preach it to the gentiles. So I think it's crucial that we see even the words of Christ through the perspective of Paul. Then we'll see that it all takes on a new meaning.

Most of us are gentiles, and all of us are living after the new covenant came, after all sin was paid for, after It Is Finished, after the law and the prophets had their time.

When the bible talks about a righteous person, it talks about me.

The fact is, if you are saved, no sin is going to send you to Hell. Yes, you may fall and have to pick yourself back up again but you can not condemn yourself to Hell if you have truly been born again.

Sin is Sin, Well here's one for you and appropriate since were the on-line community.
I used to download pirated music and software on-line.
Would that be the same as "Stealing"???
When I was living the Secular life, I thought nothing of downloading my favorite songs.
But Now that Ive accepted Christ, I wonder if that would be the same as Stealing.
I heard a song I liked by the group the "Newsboys" I thought Hmmm! I should see if I could find that on-line, then I thought "There doing the work of the lord singing positive christian based music, should I not just buy there CD and promote there good work?
instead of taking it for free off the internet.
also I needed a Software DVD player I downloaded the free trial version and got the S/N key off a hacker site.
instead of paying the $49.95 price.
would that be stealing, is this a "Grey Area" or like you said "Sin Is Sin" ?????????????
