I often hear or see this. In fact one denomination labels certain sins as being worthy of hell. That is the Catholic Church with mortal and venial sins.

However most Protestants I speak to state:sin is sin. It's all the same in God's eyes.

So, why the outrage over homosexual orrientation?

If one pigs out at a church pot luck why aren't your rebuking your brother and sister and saving them from hell?

If one steals a pen from the bank why aren't you saving that person from their error?

Is this the point of this forum, to discuss other sins? Sin is sin, but it's still sin. I would. I had a friend who tried to reason his way out of stealing posters from a store, saying things like "Things in a store belong to nobody" didn't seem like a big deal to him, but I had to say something. In these cases we should speak up too. But I don't really know what constitutes as gluttony.. infact I need some scriptures..

The point of the OP was not to DISCUSS 'other' sins per se but to DRAW ATTENTION to what appears to be the SELECTIVITY of sins by Christians. Even should we agree that homosexuality is an abomination to God then there are many more scriptures pertaining to other abominations that Christians seem to totally ignore. Perhaps it's because many of them commit those abominations on a daily basis and don't blink an eye. Their focus is on ONE abomination. That of homosexuality. And THAT was the point, I believe, of the OP.

By the way, I DON'T believe that homosexuality per se is a sin. One's innate sexuality CANNOT be reasonably defined as sin.

That's not the correct way of saying it.

If you break one commandment, you shatter the entire law..yes. But, the Bible makes it clear that God is not ignorant, and some sins are viewed as graver than others. (For example, King Ahab, the Bible says, did sins more evil than all the other Kings combined.)

On the other hand, I do agree that some people seem to spend time focusing on homosexuality to the point of driving homosexuals away. I like to go with Paul on this one "Let God judge those outside the church; are you not to judge those within? 'Expel the immoral brother from among you.'"

We should be showering the unbeliever with the gospel, not numbing them with the law.

I'm not selective, it's just discussed here because this is the sub forum. Go in the abortion forum, and I'll be condemning murder. Go in the once existing pornography forum or topic, and I'll be condemning that too. Relevance. Sometimes some sins have special significance to us for a various amount of reasons, but you can't expect us here to accept condemnation because of a national attitude most of us do not even hold.

The view that Christians hate gays, of course and only focus on that.

I don't believe that and the only ones I've seen express it are those who assume all Christians are like the loud religious right folks who do hate LGBTs. I wouldn't call that a "national attitude" in the same sense "The Yankees (negative verb)" is the "Boston attitude".

It kind of recalls Gandhi's comment "I like your Christ, but I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ." It's pretty much of an understatement to say the loudest voices do not always present well. It's compounded by the fact these groups whine when others disagree with them "YOU ARE ATTACKING US AS CHRISTIANS!" when of course that is not what is occurring at all. They find themselves attacked for their positions not their faith. To tell the truth moderate and liberal Christians have been lax in letting them do that unchallenged.

Because its being demanded all over that we accept it and agree with it and treat it as something other than what it is and that is sin.

If we dont agree with it - we are told we hate them (not true) If we wont pretend its ok - we are called bigots (not true) If we wont embrace it - we are told we discriminate - If we say that its sin - we are told we are liars.

We are also being told to bless it in our churches and that its not a sin anymore when it is -while we watch our bibles be rewritten and our children told its ok and told we must accept it or even be sued many times.

We teach our children its wrong to steal - why shouldnt we also teach them homosexuality is just as wrong and just as much sin.

If you dont want anyone in your bedroom - keep what you do in your bedroom and dont demand others accept it. Dont shove it in my face and i wont complain about it.

What is promoted is dignity and respect of people and non discrimination.

You have a right to your opinion. You do not have a right to express it free of criticism.

If you kiss your husband goodbye as he leaves for work on the front steps the same gender couple across the street has a right to do the exact same thing. You flaunt your heterosexuality every day. If same gender couples hold hands in the movies and you don't like it it's your problem. You should not expect sympathy from anyone for your unfortunate feelings about that.

How sad that such things are passed from generation to generation by people indoctrinating children with such negativity and fear and ignorance.

But catlover, that is precisely what the religious right does not want to proffer toward their LGBT brothers and sisters exactly. That is the purpose behind the conspiracy mongering and distortions.

Political groupings, the attitude is no surprise. Religious Right, I don't think anyone here cares about that.

About that you'd be wrong; people are posting here repeating religious right talking points and posting links to religious right websites.

Your response to this:

What is promoted is dignity and respect of people and non discrimination.
You just repeated yourself one of the reasons i told you why more is said about this sin than another.

If a thief held up what he stole in my face and demanded I accept it and embrace it and allow for it - i would be equally vocal about that sin.

You admit by your op its sin - yet say I discriminate if I wont openly accept your sin. Should I allow a murderer to murder and embrace it so I wont be "discriminating" against them? Certainly not.

You asked why its more focused on and then answered yourself one of the main reasons. We shouldnt have to "embrace" sin.

Also allowing for sin as a people brings Gods judgment on us all as a society.

You can do those things as much as you like - but telling me I must embrace it - make laws for you to marry - be forced in my church to see my pastor marry you all and be sued if i refuse to cater to it - is not the same thing at all.

The Op asked a question and i answered it - if you feel the need to personally attack me because of my view then knock yourself out - but guess what? Some of us arent too intimidated by cries of hate and weak personal attacks to answer it honesty and forthrightly. We understand that standing for Gods truth will earn this kind of this for us.

The op asks why this sin is spoken about more and one can look at posts like yours and see clearly why. your post backs my posts perfectly. Thank you

Lastly -I dont want or need your sympathy so dont flatter yourself (it was just a strawman anyway on your part) - and neither have I asked for it.

I care about what God thinks first and foremost not what the world thinks and there isnt anything you or anyone else in the would in your "movement" can say to me that would make me value your opinion over His.

The agenda driven propgandist manipulations (cries of hate- discrimination- unfairness) can be saved for someone it works on - and it will never work on anyone who honors Gods words and truth nor should it if that person cares about the soul of someone in grave error.

Oh really? Then why were the leaders of your religious right faction including James Dobson and Ralph Reed involved with the machinations of the notorious K Street Lobbyist (AKA "thief") Jack Abrahamoff?

You admit by your op its sin - yet say I discriminate if I wont openly accept your sin.

You can accept or not accept whatever you like. You cannot do so free of criticism.

We shouldnt have to "embrace" sin.

No one is asking you to but from your posts it appears to are willing and eager to embrace the sin of arrogance.

Also allowing for sin as a people brings Gods judgment on us all as a society.

So Falwell and Robertson were right in your book for saying 9-11 was to be blamed on LGBTs?

telling me I must embrace it

You are free to do what you like. No one is telling you otherwise.

make laws for you to marry

We have a right to favor that and you have a right to oppose it.

- be forced in my church to see my pastor marry you all and be sued

No one is proposing this. I'd like to see such churches lose tax exemptions but that is not realistic at this point.

We understand that standing for Gods truth will earn this kind of this for us.

That's not what you are doing here.
