  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Can sin and God coexist in the same space?

Well God is everywhere and there is sin in the world so He must be able to.

1Co 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
1Co 3:17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

1Jn 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1Jn 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Great question

Sin in the simplest meaning is imperfection. To sin is to not do something perfectly. In Christianity, to sin is usually understood to mean breaking or not perfectly follow one of Gods (perfect) holy laws.

Now as for your question, in order to be in Heaven (the area were God resides) one must be perfect.

But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb's book of life.
Revelation 21:27

However, we can also see in the scriptures and in life that God does have communion with people that are imperfect. Me, you, everyone.

So the answer to your question is both no and yes. We are called for perfection but it is only through the blood of Jesus Christ that an imperfect people can be with a perfect God.

Well 1 Cor 3:16-17 seem to be against what you said. And 1 John 1:9 shows that confessing 'cleanses us from all unrighteousness'. So from my knowledge sin is unrighteosness.
and if God could have no part with sin (or sinners) then He would not be able to hear the confession of those who have done unrighteousness. In this way Jesus (who is truly God) acts as our High Priest and advocate with the Father.

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
1 John 2:1

1 John 2:1

Isaiah 59:1-3
Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened,
That it cannot save;
Nor His ear heavy,
That it cannot hear.
But your iniquities have separated you from your God;
And your sins have hidden His face from you,
So that He will not hear.
For your hands are defiled with blood,
And your fingers with iniquity;
Your lips have spoken lies,
Your tongue has muttered perversity.

It says he hears, but he doesn't help because of iniquity.
It also says it's not that he won't save, but that he won't cause of iniquity.
Sins has made him hide his face from us.

Jesus is our advocate... but I guess it depends if you believe correctly or not?

If we are the temple of God, where God resides, how is it possible for us to have sin?
And if we have sin, does that mean we don't believe?

I must also add, Jesus would tell us to say "The kingdom of God has come upon you" because we ourselves if we possess the Holy Spirit are this kingdom. So, taking that into consideration, I am looking to what you said earlier about the heaven thing.

What do you mean by correctly?
I would agree that heresy is a sin, but a person doesn't have to be a theologian to be a Christian.
In fact a person could be a theologian and have a completely orthodox understanding of doctrine and still not be a Christian.

You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!
James 2:19

Belief in monotheism (one God) is an orthodox (correct) belief.

I am not disagreeing with what you said.
I just hold to the view that all believers must worship in Spirit and truth.
This takes into consideration all scripture, apart from contradiction.
The presence of contradiction implies that person is not believing the truth.
If God is with them, then God will lead them into all truth.

It doesn't matter if a person has studied 50 years and not have the SPirit, if a little child has the Spirit and they do not, the child will be entered into heaven and the person who has studied 50 years will be condemned for not having the Spirit.

If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple.
1 Corinthians 3:17

Sounds like it, but keep in mind Gods mercy and through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ it is now possible for God to save a lost people who He calls His own. :)

He came to take away sin
And in Him there is no sin.

And yet we proclaim that both our iniquities are laid upon him (Is 53:6) and that he is God (2 Pet 1:1) So you come to the problem of the Cross and therefore have to deny one of these two facts to continue with the idea that God can not exist where there is sin.

Genesis 6:3(NKJV)
3And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” (see verse 5 also)

God don't roll with sinners and He will not coexist with sin.

He is Holy!

this is what God thinks of sinners:

Ezekiel 18:4(NKJV)
4 “Behold, all souls are Mine; The soul of the father As well as the soul of the son is Mine; The soul who sins shall die.

He says sinners deserve death (rom 6:23)!

yes and? He became sin for us and judged those sin on the cross. Surely he has no sin? He rose and THEN sent the holy spirit.

So we come back to the OP, sinners deserve death, Jesus died and reconciled the world to Him. Therefore.... we can conclude... hehe
This thread didn't really offer much opposition, knowing that agreeing, agrees one is without sin.
