  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm 17 and a couple days ago i smoked some weed for the first time with my

friends. I did it because i just wanted to know what it felt like because every

person i asked said its really hard to explain and you have to try it for yourself.

Well i smoked with them and got pretty high and we just goofed around and

made jokes and then went home and it wore off after a couple of hours. But the

next day i regretted it. Even though we didn't cause any trouble or anything i

just felt bad about like i shouldn't have done it. That leads up to my next

question. Is it a sin to smoke weed and why do i feel so bad about this?

Drinking alcohol is a venial sin, alcoholism is a mortal sin. It's only reasonable to conclude that all drugs follow this same suit.

Smoking weed one time, or every once in a blue moon, is no different then the occasional spirit. There are three things that one simply has to be wary of: your relationship with God, your physical health, and your family/social integrity.

God created weed just like he created any number of plants that are used for pain relief, or for the simple fun of it. Therefore, being created and natural I would argue that pot is definitely a good thing when used in moderation. I enjoy a toke every now and again, and my life remains balanced, and happy.

I don't think it's a sin because God gave us permission to use the things that grow out of the ground, including marijuana, poppies and cocao leaves, all of which have pain relieving/energizing effects in their purest form. I don't even think the first experience you had was a sin, because I'm pretty sure you were unaware of the guilt you would experience after you came off the high.

However, if you think you would feel that guilt again, it means that something is telling you not to do it. To continue after this point, or before you've reconciled the whole issue between you and God, would be a sin. I would suggest reading the Bible, praying about it, and then sticking with whatever you feel is right.

Didn't see the bit about feeling bad: Any number of things could make you feel guilt for smoking weed. Do you have a family that is staunchly anti-drug? Were you part of a D.A.R.E program in your school? If anyone in your family suffers with addiction it could cause some stress too.

It could also be a side effect of the drug. Pot affects all of our brains differently, and depending on the strain of plant you get the high could be mild, or intense, and each of the side effects would be different according to the high you have.
I can smoke without so much as a head ache the next morning, though sometimes I feel like I have cotton for brains. My older brother has to avoid pot and even synthesized THC because he's prone to addiction. Pot can also affect people with anxiety issues in a negative way too, so if you have anxiety it could be part of your feelings afterwards.

I think you need to take a deep breath, thank God for the plant, but then politely decline it's presence in your life if you suffer guilt from it.
I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Remember, Jesus loves you. :)

God is pretty clear that he wants us to care for our bodies. This means trying to stay as healthy as possible. As most of us learn in our P.E. and Health classes, caring for our bodies means eating well, exercising, and avoiding things that are bad for us. With all the negative effects of smoking, it may not be the most Godly habit to develop.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 - "Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body."

You should pray about it and repent. No need to continue feeling badly.
