  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sin Eater questions

I was lead to this forum after reading a certain book, and having found no one in my local faith community who has any reactions to it or has read it, I thought I would search online for some feedback.

The book is titled "Sin Eater: A Ministry of Suffering", and is by Isaac DeLuca (though I can't find anything about the author on the internet).

I wanted to know if anyone had read it and what sorts of reactions you had to it, or what your opinions on the practice of sin eating in general were.

I'd post the back cover summary on the book, but I don't want to break any forum rules or anything. Though basically the book is all about what a sin eater is, what they do for the community, and how to become one.

I guess what I want to know is, what would a sin eater's relationship be with the church? In the book it's not really clearly addressed, and I could use some input, as I don't want to start down this path if the general consensus is that sin eating is wrong.

What do you think?

I wasn't a big fan of the film, though I have to admit I bought the book because of it, I couldn't believe someone wrote about it.

It was similiar to the film in that the book presented several methods of taking on the sins, one of which was very much like those used in the movie. Though a key difference was that the author insisted that only through Jesus was there salvation, and that sin eating served only to remove those sins/negative energies that prevented someone from having a chance to fully accept Jesus or find their way back to Him. The whole book is filled with mention of energy work and theurgy.

So, with that mentality, would sin eating be a moral act for a Christian, given that it does not seek to bypass the church, but to augment it? It just seems to be a risky sort of proposition, a little challenging if you get my meaning.
