  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

ok, sin is not alive, it is a concept. you could say that it evolves, but it doesn't do it biologically. it evolves in that it changes. our perception of what is evil changes. take homosexuality for example.

the only way i can think of to link sin/morals to biology would be our instincts. most humans will not kill another human willingly, and especially not close family members. sympathy and empathy are things that pretty much everyone experiences. why do we feel this? most likely because of evolution. communities where people instinctively protected each other instead of killing each other obviously survived better. same with people who help each other with food, shelter, or whatever.

there are only a few species of animals that do things like this, i think vampire bats are one of them. chimps probably are too.

If you say that society decides what is right or wrong, then how do you account for the big variations in what societies believe. Were the Nazis justified in killing the Jews simply because their society considered this desireable? Trouble is now they look back and see the error of what they did.
