• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"Just as criminals must pay the penalty for their crimes, sinners must pay the penalty for their sins. If you continue to sin, you will pay the penalty of spiritual death: You will not only die physically; you will also be separated from our holy God for all eternity. The Bible teaches that those who choose to remain separated from God will spend eternity in a place called hell."

I read this and got scared. You all who have OCD are you constanly afraid your sinning. I'm afraid that I'm sinning and I don't know it or I'm ignoring something that is a sin. That's what scares me with OCD. Do you all go through this?

Jesus paid the price. You have OCD, which is an illness. Just think about those two things for a bit. :)

Also.........In trying to find reassurance, you are finding things like the above words that you quoted, and are turning them into what OCD tells you. I'm guessing you were trying to find something to help yourself, and found this, and you will ruminate on this one for a while, until you find something else that bothers you even more. The only reason I know this, is because I did it for 8yrs.

Please call a psychiatrist and get some help. I have a hard time seeing someone suffer when they can be helped.

Jesus loves you.....nothing can separate you from Him.

We do go through this and you are not alone ..

I think its important to discuss it openly and i personally dont think it neccesarily feeds the cycle of OCD ..I have found that the more i talk about my fears and concerns the better i feel and am more informed ..but that is me .. Different approaches work best for different people . I think a combination of both pastoral and psychological counseling is better than having one without the other .

I am unclear where you read that, but you will continue to sin, in this life. Yes we will sin less but will never be sinless.

The bible is very clear that those who practice sin, will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

1John 1:8-10 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

1John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

I speak to you not as someone with OCD for a reason, but as a Christian, why? Becuase although as a person who has OCD and may obsess or doubt over such things, so does a person without it.

And a Christian needs to know these verses and understand them reguardless of any type of infirmities

I think a combination of both pastoral and psychological counseling is better than having one without the other .

I agree with this statement

When you get thoughts about these sins, it is wise to remember the Word of God and put your trust in it.

I agree with this, ecspecially if the pastor has been told the person has OCD. I ran from pastor to pastor for reassurance before I was finally diagnosed with OCD. Once that happened, (though I saw the psychiatrist more often), my pastor really understood that this was an illness and he wholeheartedly agreed with my treatment of meds and exposure/response therapy.

I hope I never gave the impression that a pastor could not be involved with recovery. He just needs to understand the illness to be of more help. :)
