Didaskomenos, sorry, but your post was very good and pointed out that just because something is called a myth does not mean it is not true. I haven't addressed it because I agree with this principle.

As for I Corinthians, Paul is right that the basic Christian message is foolishness to the World, and we should not be influenced by their scorn.

But this scripture is all to often used to argue against any particular aspect of secular knowledge that the "World" has come up with, but the speaker does not approve. God does not, based on this verse, want us to be "foolish" or ignorant about His creation. He just wants us to accept that our basic belief system itself will seem foolish.

Again, it gets back to the lesson of Geocentrism. God does not want us to hide behind "the foolish to confound the wise" and avoid the truths we discover about His creation even if it conflicts with our current interpretation of Scripture.

Hi Potluck,

Firstly I should point out that I am primarily an OEC, but I do consider evolution a possible method of creation. I have no interest in degrading YEC’s & there is only one reason I am writing this post.

A couple of weeks ago I spoke with a work friend about Christianity. He said that he went to church as a child, but became an atheist as he got older. His primary reason for rejecting Christianity was his belief that the world could not have been only 6,000 years old. He is now 50 and has had this belief for 30 years.

I can understand your "no compromise" stand when reading Genesis. But let me ask one question – what if you are wrong? Is it worth creating a stumbling block for even one person if there is a chance you could be?

I am not asking you to give up your belief in YEC. Only to remember that it is not central to the Christian message & to be careful when presenting it to non-christians.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

May I ask a question without reference to origins, evolution, literal views... Basically something off topic.
No offense whatever to anyone please.

Is it ok to tell someone something that's less than a little fib or something not quite "spot on" to lure them to the Lord? It's good that they get Jesus in their life so that should overshadow a little not-quite-so-true or trivial thing standing in the way right?
Seriously, heck, I've been guilty of that a time or two myself. I think all of us are at one time or another.
I'm just curious though. Nothing intended ok?

BTW, United. There's joy in heaven when even one soul repents. :)

Potluck, I can understand your dilemma and I would say there should never be any falsehood, even in the smallest measure, in the presentation of Christ or Christian teaching. The good news is that you can explain that there are good, Bible-believing Christians on both sides of this issue without any "fibbing" at all! :0)
