Okay, my dear, sweet, saint of a mom is buying us the crib as a gift for her grandson and she's letting us pick it out. Tonight, my husband and I found a Simplicity nursery in a box (crib, changing table, and dresser) for $200. He shook it, pulled on the bars, and man handled it to see if it would hold up and it did really well, better than we would've thought for the price.

I'm just curious, does anyone know if Simplicity is a good brand? As I said, it seemed really sturdy and was solid wood with metal holding up the mattress. Plus, its a more traditional style, which we like, and seems as good, if not better, than the $400 crib-changing table combo we saw.

We looked at a Simplicity crib and thought it was a good crib. We ended up picking something else just because we liked the style better, but the Simplicity seemed to be very sturdy-better than many of the other cribs we looked at on display. :)

I was going to purchase that set also, BUT.. I decided against it because the um dresser is made out of plyboard or whatever that pressed board is called. We had bought a dresser from Walmart for my daughter that was pressed board and it fell apart within a year... so, that's the only disadvantage that I know of.. I'd hate to spend all that money on somethign again and it fall apart in such a short amount of time...

Just curious, what dresser did you buy? We bought one from WalMart too and have yet to put it together, hopefully it won't fall apart like yours did! :)

at walmart it says "stylish wood construction"... I'm sure the crib is made of hardwood because pressed board wouldn't be able to support a jumping toddler lol.. we bought my DD's crib from walmart and it's still in 1 peice... if you're not concerned with the dresser and possibly the changer falling apart, then go for it.. cheap stuff and you get a lot... just don't let it get wet, and I wouldn't let anyone be "rough" with the furniture... lol

The changer's a differant story, cause I don't want it collasping with one of my kids on it (we don't intend to stop with just one ;) ). Hubby jerked on the stuff pretty good, so I'm hoping the fact it didn't collaspe means its okay. He's about 246 pounds or so and is strong enough to hold a transmission on his legs and push it in a car with his arms, no jack or assistence of any kind. As I said, hopefully that's an indication it's good quality, plus there weren't any recalls on that particular one.
