In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Suppose you and your friend, Bob, go into a special house. This house is divided into two rooms between which no form of sensation(Sensation being anything that can be used to dicsern the presence of an object in the other room) can cross. You go into one room and Bob goes into the other room. Now, you have no way of knowing that Bob is in the room. What is the difference, if there is one, between Bob being there with you not being able to know that he is and Bob not being in the room?

Haven't you already stated the difference?

In the one case, Bob is there and you dont know he is.

In the other, Bob's not there.

It seems it would make a difference to Bob.

That's pretty interesting to think about, though I would have to say that there is no difference. If nothing can cross that barrier (even, and this is reaching out on a limb for, thoughts) then it would be no different that if you but a rock in there with the word "Bob" written on it.


EDIT: Wow, great point Charlie. I just meant there would be no difference to me ("you").
