  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

This may sound silly, but I wanted to share this with the people here. And the topic concerns: a salad bowl. yes... this is an OBOB related story... *L* Not a recipe forum question.

I was born quite a bit too early, and bringing me over to church for baptism would have been dangerous. So, the priest came and baptised me quickly at home in accordance with canonic law(happened to be on Easter day as well).

Of course there was no baptismfont, and instead what was used was the newly gifted, beautiful wooden saladbowl. I was a strong baby and suffered no later ill effects from the early birth and apart from the pictures, little reminds of that quick baptism.

I am soon moving out to live fully on my own for the first time, and like all concerned mothers, my mom is rumaging through the house to see what she can give me. We have the things from my trousseau of course, but here a knife can be added. And she doesn't need two different sets of napkin rings, etc.
In rumaging through the cupboards and unpacking boxes, something came out that made her smile: the saladbowl. And with that... she gave me my 'baptism font' to take to my new home.

My son was baptised in intensive care as a baby. My uncle (a priest) had just visited and he was to be transfered to another hospital for more specialist care. They couldn't take him out of the incubator so my uncle used a syringe to get the water on his head.
I still have it 15 years later.
I don't think it's a silly story at all!!

*smiles* Isn't it wonderful how something so little can make people smile so much? It's still wonderful for me to just... ponder the story, and remember how it was told. To look at the few pictures that are there. The priest...28 years younger and several pounds lighter then he is now, doing the dishes of the eastermeal afterwards. And me... unaware of it all, but being brought into the family of the faith with such joyous hope on easter day.
I hope all those that are looking forward to comming into the church this easter may feel that same joyous hope and strength that radiates from these pictures.
