  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm really pumped about this movie. Silent Hill and Final Fantasy are my fav games. Final Fantasy movie bombed so I'm hoping Silent Hill will be good.

Hey the first FF movie bombed, bu don't discount FF7:AC just yet it's a great movie I've seen it three times, once on my computer-once with my whole family(even thouh my parents don't understand video games)- And once at the christmas party I threw last year. Everyone said it rocked.

Anyway I am definitely going to see this if I can talk my parents into letting me go with my brother. I've never played any of the silent hill games, but I watched my brother play 1, 3, and 4 can't remember 2 though. What does PH look like by the way? I've watched the trailer now I'm going to watch it again.

Pyramid Head is the guy in my avatar. Not the greatest looking picture, as I had to crop it. If you want to see more, let me know. I can also send you a link to a picture of him from the movie as well, if you want.

EDIT: And by the way, I agree. FF:AC was a lovely movie. The story was kind of "eh" (I haven't played the VII game though), but the visuals were gorgeous.

Ehh...there are no "spirts" in Silent Hill, really. There are ghosts, if that's what they were referring to. And skinning doesn't sound like something that would happen there, at least in front of you. The horror is much more subtle then that, usually. It's gory, yes, but I've yet to see anything like that. Not saying it couldn't happen though. I hope it doesn't, it sounds horror movie cliche, but whatever.

I agree with you about the rating. I believe Gans already confirmed it's going to be "R". There's no way anything involving Silent Hill could be anything less and remain true to the feel and atmosphere of the town.

I love your avatar. I am just looking forward to it because the games were so good, especially 3. I am hoping it doesnt do crapily like most other video game movies.

I'll definatly be seeing this movie. :) I loved the games (sadly never played 1, though), 4 being my favorite. the series is so fun to dig into once you're done playing the game and even while you are. Hopefully the silver screen will do the game justice...hopefully.

When I was young I watched many scarey movies. Then when my husband and I were dating we went and saw Hellraiser. Ok that was the end of scarey movies for me. I left to go to the bathroom during the movie, thinking it had to be close to over, and I was going to wait in the lobby for him. Well when I stepped out it was only 35 minutes into the movie. I new he would come looking for me eventually. So I went back in and watched the whole thing. Oh my and the dreams I had after that.

After hearing about the spirit skinning the body, sounds like it is heading for the whole Hellraiser scarey stuff. NO WAY I will hide in my room while my husband goes and watches it. He can have the bad dreams not me.

Ok, anyone that is planning on seeing the movie and doesn't hang around any Silent Hill forums or play the games, this will be a big SPOILER!!!

It's not a spirit, it's Pyramid Head. He's a huge icon from Silent Hill 2, and he represents guilt. His purpose for tearing off the skin of that woman is to represent what the cult in Silent Hill did to Alessa (a little girl). They set her on fire, and Pyramid Head peeled away this woman's skin, just like Alessa's skin was peeled away. I know this because it came straight from Christophe Gans, the director.

Now, if you can't handle gore, don't see it. But please don't think our beloved Silent Hill is all about mindless gore. You didn't say it, but I just wanted to clarify that it is supposed to be full of meaning, not just to give sick pleasure to gorehounds.

If it makes you feel any better, Hellraiser managed to freak me out too, and blood and guts doesn't usually bother me. I think it was the whole "They can come get you and torture you for all eternity thing". :p I loved the cennobite designs though.

That's what I love about Silent Hill. (highlight for spoilers) The creatures are all manifestations of the subconscious feelings of the main characters....so cool.

As for hellraiser, yea that totally freaked me out when I was a kid. Usually only the parts that took place in hell though. It was the idea of being in that dark place with those things chasing you around.....forever...ack.

Bit of trivia though, did you know that cennobites are actually orders of monks and nuns? Don't know why they gave the demons in the movies that name.
