  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I've been busy with work. Bleh. That's the crappy thing about having two jobs...the times when business is slow seems to align themselves, and unfortunately the times where they are busy do to. I'm in a busy slot right now. Bleh. I hope all of you are well.

Been at work a lot. And my wife is still unemployed so we are spending more time together. Reading more than I'm used to. Trying to find good theology books, not always easy.

Yeah, this ELCA forum was used a lot more for a while and then just silence...

What kind of business are you involved in?

What have you been reading, Doulos?

I used to try to read theology in my spare time... now it's just text books. This is fine because I enjoy learning, but I wish I had a more balanced reading life right now.

I've been spending a lot of time in the BoC.
I also just recently got "Power, Politics and the Missouri Synod: A Conflict that Changed American Christianity" (there is a thread on it in the TLC). That one is more history than theology.

I also recently got "Honoring our Neighbor's Faith" from AF. It's a denominational comparison book. Not as good as I thought, but ok.

For Christmas I had gotten "Proof texts of the Catechism with Practical Commentary" from CPH. Pretty good, although it is an old text so he uses KVJ translations and sometimes his practical commentary is on old issues, but I still enjoy it and I find the author's commentary at times a little humorous.

I'm still making my way through "Letters from the Land of Cancer" by Walter Wangerin Jr.

in the category of what theology did I read today the answer would be an article by Steven Paulson from a 2006 issue of Word & World entitled "What is Essential in Lutheran Worship?"

Thanks guys! It felt great to be back in the classroom. I've been out of work for the past year and a half due to really low enrollment in our college, even though the university enrollment is on par. I usually teach computer hardware or commercial networking. This is the first I've taught my passion - photography.
What a great class! It's in a different setting at a vocational school where I get to teach mature adults (not teenie bopper college kids), but I have a wonderful group and most are already enrolled in my subsequent Photoshop course (another series that I'm going to end up developing course content on a daily basis - yeow!).
It's part time, but it is a regular gig. That makes me really happy because my hubby works such a weird schedule, so we can actually spend time together.

I've been busy changing jobs... twice! First time was cause I got fired from my former place of employment, a bank that shall remain nameless. Then I did telemarketing for a month, because I was desperate for a paycheck (having a kid on the way made me so, hehe).

But now I am starting back at another bank, and even though it's part time starting out, I did find out that when something opens up full time, I'm on the inside track, being already there. Also, to do the same work at this bank compared to the last (at least, my final position at that last bank, which was opening accounts and loans, usually called either Personal or Universal Banker), I'd start out almost double what the former bank was paying me with 3 years experience.

While I don't know what the future holds, seeing that possibility of making more than 20K a year, possibly even fairly soon, has me excited and looking for and seeing God's providence in my (imo) unjust firing (I never would've thought to look at this particular bank before I became desperate for a non-telemarketing job).
