  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I saw the movie last sunday and I enjoyed it. I always love the little gingerbread man and puss in boots was hilarious. Though I wanted to strangle the fairy Godmother and her prince spoiled brat momma's boy son!!! (no i don't have anger problems :p) They were just sooo irritating and guys that have relationships like that with their moms are pathetic.

At first I thought it was going to suck, as most of the early jokes fell flat, like the LoTR reference. But after the first 20 min, it got extremely funny. Puss in Boots made the movie, I almost fell out of my seat laughing more than a few times.

Oh, and one of my favorite quotes from it, "He's wearing a thong!" :D

Already saw it! I love Puss in boots he is so cute when he puts on his innocent face. I liked the part where the gengerbread cookie and panokeo get Shrek and Puss and Donkey out of jail its hilarious. "Tell a lie" lol. But prince charming is creepy.

I love Antonio Banderas as an actor...(yes, my husband knows, too! LOL) so to have him as the voice of Puss-n-Boots was PERFECT! The Queen? Julie Andrews! The King? John Cleese! Can't go wrong on those, either! GREAT casting all around, I think.

The humor was much, much more intelligent and less "toilet", gross humor such as in the first. (Slight spoiler) I loved the part where the crowd of people in "Far, Far Away" scream and run out of the "Farbucks" and across the street into another "Farbucks". ROFL!!!

Saw it last Sunday. I won't repeat much of what has been said here. It was funny. The animation was spectacular for the most part. The opening scene of Prince Charming riding to the castle seemed almost photo-real. While the jokes and cultural references were good, as a lover of cinema I REALLY appreciated the many, many allusions to other films, both obvious and subtle.

My only knock on the film is that I had read some reviews that stated that some of the humor was "adult" humor, but done in a way that children would not notice. I disagree at a couple of points. There's nothing subtle about "It's a thong!" and the cross-dressing wait(er?)(ress?) garnered a little too much screen time to be able to avoid. Other than those two I thought they balanced things out well.

Funniest moments not already mentioned on this thread:
Okay, well the "Knights" bit HAS been mentioned, but specifically when the pat down Puss and pull out a baggie and declare it is catnip and Puss protests, "That's not mine!"

Puss busting through Shrek's shirt ala "Alien."

Puss' dancing in the closing musical number.

The land of Far, Far Away being presented in such a literal fashion.

Puss to Donkey, "You still look like an *** to me."

Good flick!

I guess I'm one of the few people who didn't really like Shrek 2. I enjoyed the first one, though it didn't blow me away or anything, and I was expecting about the same. But it just sort of dragged; all the returning characters just seemed to be doing their same, tired schtick (especially Donkey, who was really funny in the first one).

The few, really good moments in the sequel were almost all generated from Puss in Boots. Banderas was great, and the eyes and catnip bits were some funny stuff.

The ending was predictable and stupid; but, they do have a franchise to protect here so I can see why they went the way they did. The upshot is, the movie theater's power went off with about two minutes left of the movie, so I got a free pass to see another movie--so I don't feel cheated!

Plus, I'm not a fan of the visual style of the Shrek movies (never have been). Oh, it's competent enough stuff, and from a geek standpoint, I appreciate the fact that the graphics work was done on Linux machines, but it lacks the cohesive style of a Pixar film. (But, they are the best in that business, so I guess I can't expect everyone to live up to them!)
