The Boy Scouts, being a private organization, can refuse any members they so choose. However, given that they are a private organization, they should not be permitted to hold meetings, etc, in any public areas, or recieve funding from the federal government.

Honestly, its their choice. They just can't have their cake and eat it too, as it were.

Openly gay people are not allowed to be in the boy scouts. Do you feel gays should be allowed in them? I am trying to find some opinions for either side of the argument.

That is totally disgusting and would be illegal in the UK. Gays are human beings, no better, no worse than straights!

The US seems to pride itself on being more religious than say the UK, but God help us, if by being religious it means the sick brand of rabid fundamentalism that bans Gays from jopining the Scouts! Give me a secular society any day of the week!

the way you put it made it sound like you thought that the priests who abused kids were gay.

and the victims werent gay either, that doesnt make a difference at all if a boy gets abused it doesnt mean they are gay or make them become gay.

i don't agree to homosexuals to be allowed in boy scouts. homosexuality is not a good thing accepted by God. God created Adam and Eve ..... not Adam and Steve.

actually it's not... you see discrimination based on sexual orientation is just as arbitrary as skin color and religion. So his post was a very fair analogy. If you try to take the route that sexual orientation is a choice... then I challenge that religion is also. Is discrimination based on religion acceptable?

Back to the OP - If they receive any type of special funding it should be stripped away... but this goes for tax exempt churches also.

This country has a long way to go before it's a fair secular state.

Its interesting to note that the only people really being accused of discrimination are the Christians. Never mind the fact that Christianity preaches AGAINST homosexuality, everyone else is free to be as bigotted as they choose.

And don't give a rat's rear-end about whether or not this society is gay-friendly. Is that any reason to compromise one's beliefs?

I think everyone is guilty of some kind of discrimination.

and yea immigrants should learn English but I also think they should be able to keep their original language and teach it to their kids.

its a big advantage being bilingual at least, and even more of an advantage to be multilingual.
