No. The Boy Scouts of America was founded as a Christian organization. According to the Bible homosexual sex is an "abomination" to the Christian God. Therefore, as a private organization, the BSA has a right to exclude homosexuals (or anyone else) from their organization

I actually agree with revrobor on this one, at least in part.

I would prefer to see organizations such as the Boy and Girl Scouts be open to anyone, regardless of sexual orientation. However, as he points out, the Boy Scouts was formed as a Christian organization - and if being gay isn't okay in Christian values, and the Boy Scouts wants to maintain their position, well - they are a private org and have the right to do so. Should they? I don't think so, but it isn't up to me.

Fortunately, CampFire USA does not use sexual orientation to exclude anyone, according to the core values listed on their website.

Should they be allowed in? Sure, I think they should. But that's my opinion only and I don't see it happening. I consider it a failing in the Boy Scouts that they don't allow it. I think it's better that people who don't agree with that philosophy to put their kids into a less discriminatory club.

The Boy Scout Oath:
On my honor, I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.

It really doesn't matter what people's opinions are on the issue. It has been through the court system and the Supreme Court has ruled for the Boy Scouts of America in Boy Scouts of America v. Dale.

But of course, if people wish to continue to harass children and drag a Christian organization to the courts continually expressing that a male's right to be sexually attracted to other males over-rides the First Amendment Constitutional Right of Religious expression, I'm sure that will do wonders for the PR of the pro-gay special interest. :sigh:

Yes, private organizations are allowed to keep their own rules. I can't say much more without a link.
I know what I've posted in other threads lately, yes, but I am looking more for correct translation of the Bible rather than to destroy beliefs.

Actually I agree, boys scouts are a private social club and therefore can make any rules and chraters they wish, just like any group...like..ya know...the KKK, black panthers, etc.

Just as long as they are not govt endorsed or funded, I'm happy.

Do I think they should be? Yes.

Are they currently exempt from punishment for not allowing them? No.

Do I care? Sort of. I was once a boyscout and I'd like my son to be, because frankly, they are the only group of their kind at the moment. When my son's parents ask if he can be in the Boy Scouts with little Billy and Jack, I'm going to have to say I'm an atheist/raising my son as one; only to open me up to hostility? Rough situation. (Although we are talking aobut gays, atheists are not allowed in either)

Now, I don't believe the Boy Scouts should receive a dime of our tax dollars because they are discriminatory.

What do you mean by 'in' the boy scouts? I don't know of too many 10 yr-olds that are gay. And if you're much older than that and still in scouts...sexual orientation is the least of your concerns.

So are you talking about scout-leaders? Something about gay scout-leader makes me think Catholic priest..so I'd say it's a wise decision not to let them lead.

just to clarify...

most child sex offenders identify themselves as straight and not gay whether they abuse boys or girls.

Its best to say no, what example would someone
"gay" bring to kids that need a strong base to help them in decisions in life,hopefully good ones, that wont take them from the narrow path to our Lord.

Yeah, keep those evil gays away from our children, for heaven's sake! All other sinners are welcome to influence them all they want, of course.

That I'm familiar with, it was a joke because what I really don't get is what we're discussing here. Again, how many little kids out there are gay? I see that their age range goes up to 17, but I never knew anyone over 10-11 still in scouts. It seems rather silly to bar gays, when sexual orientation isn't determined to any significant degree until a later stage of development. So it's very likely that kids that will later in life be gay are still going to be in scouts. Does this mean that when they group up and realize that they are gay they have to turn in their badges?

According to the bible eating shrimp is an abomination as well…

But all in the seas or in the rivers that do not have fins and scales, all that move in the water or any living thing which is in the water, they are an abomination to you. They (shellfish) shall be an abomination to you; you shall not eat their flesh, but you shall regard their carcasses as an abomination. Whatever in the water does not have fins or scales; that shall be an abomination to you." (Leviticus 11:10-12)

So do the Boy Scouts also discriminate against individuals who eat shellfish, or are connected somehow to Red Lobster restaurants?

Deuteronomy 24:1-4 claims that remarriage following divorce is an abomination.

Do the Boy Scouts discriminate against individuals who have been divorced and remarried…do the Boy Scouts discriminate against the children of such an abomination?

Dishonest business practices are named as an "abomination" in Deuteronomy 25: 13 - 16, Proverbs 11: 1 and Proverbs 20: 10.

Do the Boy Scouts discriminate against lawyers and politicians? :confused:

That said the Boy Scouts is a private organization (that for some reason receives public funds) if the Boy Scouts wishes to promote and engage in discrimination they really should not receive those public funds.

One has to wonder if so many would be so quick to defend the discrimination the Boy Scouts is partaking in if they were discriminating based on skin color.
