The SDA Church does not disfellowship its members for not agreeing with all 28 fundamental beliefs. So although in theory those statements look like a creed that everyone must affirm in order to remain an Adventist, in practice they are not. In fact, many pastors don't even require people to accept all of them in order to become members of the SDA Church.

Desmond Ford was defrocked as a minister for rejecting the IJ but he was never disfellowshipped.

Although, he might as well have been, as Trad haters were treating him as a pariah anyhow.

Frankly, I don't blame him for not staying a member on the books. The fundamentalists have slandered his name and hurled the worst crticisms against him-and they still are.

Yippy, sign me up for some of that. I want to stay in a church who does this to me!

thanks for answering that for me. I was assuming that one had to agree to every article of faith to be granted full membership in the church. Shows how much I knew about it. Hey, you get my pm?

Sophia, I already made the necessary clarifications and deletions in the FSG discussion thread yesterday. I am monitoring this vote closely and making sure only the ones that qualify are counted.

Could you please go into the poll and delete the votes that do not count?

OK, I updated the numbers, but the names can't be changed.

Ah, yes, and that is a big difference. Many pastors have had their credentials revoked over disagreements with the 28 FBs, and many keep quiet about their disagreements so that they can keep their jobs. As you know (but I'm posting this for Pythons' benefit), my husband gave up his ministerial credentials because of his disagreements with the IJ. Leaving the SDA Church was a separate decision for us.

To be honest, many SDAs don't even know what all 28 fundamentals are. I wouldn't go so far as to say most, but for a large portion this is true.

That's true. A lot of Adventists just don't care about all of the doctrinal specifics.

Well lets shed the labels, and come out of our bunkers and see what we can work out to make everyone feel welcome......we got enough 'haters' in the world to deal with, lets at least try to show a little of Christs love to each other, and see if we can discuss in fellowship as one brotherhood......
It is difficult to shed labels when if one disagrees with a Trad one is told why call yourself an Adventist. Some Trads still cannot accept the fact their Adventism is not The definitive one.
