You know what. What I read this, I can only wonder why any nation would want to be a superpower!

Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Hardly true. Is France or Britain corrupt compared to Zimbabwe or Sudan? How about compared to Nepal or Colombia?

I was referring to the world stage. Zimbabwe and Sudan don't attakc beyond their borders. Britain forced opium onto the Chinese people! And France helped too! The US nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki in a war in which it allowed the Japanese to attack Pearl Harbour!

Want more?

In other words, it's all good if you starve and murder your own people, as long as you don't have absolute global power?

There are some pretty corrupt folks that have comparatively little power compared to the folks that hold sway in the developed nations that are still pretty corrupt folks.

And this is a point of pride? Sounds to me like you're already in the stone age!
The ability to read tone of voice text continues to amaze me.

I was just showing that a comment did not make sense.
Immagine that:

"Hey John! You should see what my kid bought for himself. He bought himself a bicycle to protec the environment and keep fit. And he bought a rice cooker too to help him with his new vegetarian diet to pretect the environment even further."

"Ha, your kid is so stupid, Bill! My kid bought himself an automatic rifle. So you tell me, Bill, if your kid and mine get into a fight one day, your kid with his... (bursts out laughing) bicycle and rice cooker, and my kid with an M16, who do you think will win? Man I'm proud of my kid!"
Are you comparing China's nuclear arsenal to a bike/rice cooker that helps fitness and the environment, and the United States arsenal to an M16?

Sincerely,
zoink

This doesn't even relate to the thread at hand, thus irrelevant.

I was comparing the US arsenal to an M16, and the bicycle and rice cooker to the more reasonable spending habbits of many European, Japanese and other nations. In some ways I'd agree that the Chinese arsenal could be compared to an M16 too (the Chinese leadership is not always composed of the brightest cookies in the jar either).

Depends what you mean by corrupt. If you mean greedy incompetent and obvious lining of your own pockets, then not so much. If you mean a complete lack of moral standard (corrupt as in rotten to the core) in the way we operate, then yes, most western countries are, we have taken corruption to a whole new level.

The US should lead the way by disbanding ALL nukes. I understand countries may hate each other...but let's not kill the earth or generations of people...after all it IS possible later generations will be capable of achieving that which we are currently running from at high rates of speed.

It's a shame. While many nations lead the way already in never having had nukes, the best the US can now do, hopefully, is at least lead the way in dismantling nukes. Second best.

The Cuban Missile Crisis should have taught us how stupid it is to have such weapons. Unfortunately, it seems as though humans are hell bent on self-destruction.

Oh sighhhh and what of us as we turn china to a sea of glass???? I guess the winds of the world wouldn't blow against us????

the radiation of those bombs that turned china to glass won't reach us????

these things were said about Japan before ww2.. and what happened??

You see China doesn't have to beat us with weapons...it never has beaten anyone with their weapons alone...but they absorb cultures....the tartars, mongols ....just a small example...

But it makes no never mind for we will not wake up the sleeping dragon...we will just keep feeding its industry...becoming more and more dependant of them as the other third world nations became dependant on us..our industrial complex moves more and more of our production base to China..

what was so funny it took our own military members to tell the defense department that the 4 million berets that were to be worn by our troops had been made in China...it took them to tell the dod that they wouldn't wear them...I guess we didn't have any hat makers left in the states...but aleast the berets a now carry a label that states made in the USA!!

Our 105s and 155s cannon barrels are manufactured in Egypt...

Can I quote and use this everytime a request for evidence is done?:D

What request for evidence?

You can't google anything yourself?

http://www.parapundit.com/archives/001731.html

Arizona is the temporary home of 500,000 illegal aliens. They cost Arizona taxpayers over $1 billion annually in services for schools, medical care, welfare anchor babies, loss of tax base and prisons.

http://www.newswithviews.com/Wooldridge/frosty2.htm

Among the key finding of the report are that the state's already struggling K-12 education system spends approximately $7.7 billion a year to school the children of illegal aliens who now constitute 15 percent of the student body. Another $1.4 billion of the taxpayers' money goes toward providing health care to illegal aliens and their families, the same amount that is spent incarcerating illegal aliens criminals

Here's a small start.

How is China going to absorb the US? Are they going to swim over?

We are leading the way in nuclear disarmament.

Not swim over, buyover.

Why is the US takeover of the British Empire being ignored? Not a shot fired, just a great big wad of cash that cannot be argued with. Same scenario in the offing.

As for hearts and minds campaings, some US Korean War veterans who had been Chinese POWs and who were given the choice to go back to the US, remained in China. The Chinese were well-known during that time for their exemplary treatment of both US and Japanese POWs; maybe the US can learn from that?

You see, many are so far back in the dark ages, that everything must be interpreted in terms of megakills. When we say "absorb", no we don't mean militarily! The Chinese, though militarily conquered by the Manchu and Mongolians, eventually absorbed them into their own culture (another way to win a war; they win the war, and you assimilate them culturally).
