Should the punishment fit the crime?

The punishment shouldn't fit the crime but how likely they are to be repeat offender. It's obviously impossible to determine this in most cases, but that's how you'd determine it in an ideal world.

Lol, I am after the general anger wears off. That story just really brought out the worst in me. From a logical point of view I agree that the punishment shouldn't necessarily fit the crime (as everyone else has said), but from an emotional point of view I'd want to really hurt those boys.
