Honestly, it's comments such as the above that make me want to become an Orthdox...the ignorance about what Catholics and Orthodox believe is just frightening.
On the other hand, we don't make decisions about God in the heat of anger.
I like chocolate bunnies, and I think they're fine to give out on 'Easter.' My kids don't pray to the bunnies, but they prey upon them.Iollain said:I'm talking about for instance, the RCC belief that Mary is the Mediatrix of Grace, now when i talk to RC's about here, they say it means that Mary is called so because she gave birth to Jesus who is the Giver of all Grace, then i look online at what other RCC and the Popes have said, they actually believe that Mary right now has all the grace and it is her decision where it goes. But the RCC will deny it is so........but then you look around and see differently.

That is, after all, the subject of this thread. I think there are other threads about Mary.
Hello:Iollain said:Nice way to avoid where this conversation has gone without confronting anything, why didn't you say this to the others?
Rdr Iakovos said:Hello:
I really cannot debate you about the Catholic position on Mary, being as neither one of us is Catholic.
As for why I responded to you, as opposed to others:
No particular reason, it was just time to get the thread which I had also waylaid back on topic.

The egg makes sense to me as an Easter item, but the Easter ham has always made me wonder. Is this some kind of demonstration of freedom from Jewish dietary laws?
I will always prefer Paschal lamb over any other Easter selection.

Rdr Iakovos said:Thank you to Iollain and Oblio for those answers on the Easter ham (enigma).
What you said is point on, Oblio, for I realize that I have already made plans to make our favorite non-fast foods on the first two days of Bright Week (yes, we plan menu that far out at home. Six kids= administrative necessity).
It will be grilled burgers on kaiser rolls with Feta cheese on Monday, Pancakes and sausages Tuesday.
Look, I took the thread off-topic again. sheesh.
We had pork steaks at my house instead of sausage.Oblio said:I think it is cultural more than anything. IIRC Fr. John Finley speaks of this in his interview Sacred Meals w/Father John Finleyon Our Life in Christ.
He gives a touching story of a black deacon who brought his Pascha basket to be blessed and Fr. asked him what was in it. His reply was, fried chicken of course. The point being that we bring those foods that we have been abstaining from in an offering to the Lord. Greeks with lamb, Ukrainians with sausage, Texans with beef ribs, St. Louisans with pork steaks
....

I was just going to leave a link for ham at Easter but upon reading i realized that the pagan site thinks the pagans own everything including the moon and stars...so i won't leave that link.

Easter Ham
Hundreds of years ago, people in England began eating ham on Easter Sunday. This is a common Easter dish all over the world. Ham comes from pigs. The pig is a symbol of good luck in many countries. To wish someone good luck in German is to say "Schwein haben." This means "have a pig." Germans used to believe that it was good luck to own a pig.
