Neither Easter nor Christmas are Biblically mandated holidays. So we are free to celebrate them any way we choose or not celebrate them at all. In the Christian church they are simply tradition established by men to build their religion. We should be celebrating Jesus' resurrection and birth all year long in the way we live.
I agree with the last part of your comment, though I’d like to remind all that it was religion that nailed Christ to the cross. I pray that I offend no one by this comment…

Easter is a spin off from a pagan fertility holiday. That is where the eggs and bunnies come into play.
The question should not be should we celebrate Easter with eggs and rabbits, but should we celebrate Easter at all.
Of course we should celebrate and appreciate the Lord's all-inclusive death and resurrection - we should appreciate it every day.
But, should we do it on a day that was once a pagan holiday and use the symbols of that pagan holiday and then twist their meaning and pretend they are now about Christ?

If you study the Christian history of things like Easter Egg Hunts and Halloween you generally discover that church leaders discovered people enjoyed their holidays and were going to celebrate them, whether the church approved or not.

The churches decided that they could use those holidays as witnessing tools. They are wonderful witnessing tools too. Especially Easter.

How many times in a year do churches draw in people that never set foot in a church any other day of the year? How many children hear the story of Christ for the first time, during Easter week?

Don't know what the Lord uses.

He said He can turn all things to His glory.
Easter is one of those things.

(On a side note. I never knew anyone considered certain things a celebration of Satan until some of the panic-filled-Christians told me so. In an odd way, their campaign to stamp out things like Easter and Halloween and Christmas gave more glory to Satan than all the eggs, bunnies and Santa's combined because in justifying their reasons for saying, "let's not do this," they TAUGHT the pagan beliefs to people who never even heard of them.)

Maybe I would be offended if I knew what you meant :D I thought it was Roman soldiers who nailed him to the Cross after He was turned over by the Jews. In the grand scheme of things it was for the sins of man. Also, the religion that Rev. was speaking of is the Christian religion--which was born from Christ and which we all believe in (otherwise we couldn't post in this forum). It is the opposite of what led to His death.

Does anyone else enjoy coloring eggs and the chocolate rabbits?

We know Easter is about The Resurrection, but should we even celebrate Easter with eggs and rabbits?

The fact is that if you honestly believe that Easter is a celebation in rememberce of the resurrection of Christ, then where do the eggs and bunnies come into the celebrstion. What exactly are they for?

If an African American is celebrating in Black History month should we then jump in a throw White History in their faces? What purpose would that serve?

If we are having a celebration in honor of Henry Ford for building Ford vehicles, do we then bring in the guy that built the first dodge and take away Ford's glory?

How can one honestly give all of the glory to the Messiah when they are distracted by what color they will make their egss, or where they might be found?

If you really feel the ned to celebrate Easter as the resurrection of the Messiah, open the bible and read the story to the children, without the eggs and bunnies.

(I personally do not celebrate Easter, but Passover, but if you in all honestly feel that you are to do so then do it, but just remember why you do it. I don't think the eggs and bunnies are required for that.)

Celebrating Passover sounds very interesting!I have contemplated observing it. Do you find it has enrichened your walk with Christ?

I am sharing something from my book,"Eggs Beautiful. How To Make Ukrainian Easter Eggs."

I thought adding a bit of history to the discussion maybe interesting. Maybe not.

"With the introduction of Christianity to Ukraine in 988 A.D, the "sun" became the "Son" and the ancient customs were absorbed into the Christian celebration of Christ's resurrection. On Easter the triangle designs on the eggs which had represented air, fire, and water now became the symbols for the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The old supernatural powers in the decorated eggs were gradually attributed to almighty God. The new meanings blended so harmoniously with the old that even today the mixture of Pagan and Christian symbolism can be seen in the designs.

I defintely believe that observing Passover (in my personal life) makes me feel much closer to the Heavenly Father and His son. It feels wonderful to be able to walk the same path that He walked.

When I was younger, I certainly did love coloring eggs. Still enjoy chocolate bunnies though, and Cadbury chocolate easter eggs!

Don't see any major problem with it. We celebrate Valentine's day with chocolate in heart-shaped boxes and with love letters and Valentine's Day cards even though it is a feast day for martyrs of the Church. It became a "day...looked upon as specially consecrated to lovers and as a proper occasion for writing love letters and sending lovers' tokens," due to some theory popularized in the Middle Mges among France and Britain that on February 14th the birds began to pair. And as Chaucer noted in Parliament of Foules:
For this was sent on Seynt Valentyne's day
Whan every foul cometh ther to choose his mate (St. Valentine)

I don't know where the Easter Bunny comes from, nor all the other things. But they are things that, as long as not distracting from the true meaning of the Easter Vigil, are fine and ok to participate in.

Pax Tecum,

John
