Should I take off my cross during a shower?

For a couple of years, I have always taken off my cross whenever I take a shower. It's the only time that I ever take it off. But I'm wondering if I'm supposed to keep my cross around my neck at all times, but I don't want to disrespect God by having the cross soaked with water and soap during the shower. What should I do?

I would recommend keeping it on. Crosses are known to get blood stained, washing them regularly helps keep them clean and sanitary!

Seriously, God doesn't care either way. It's an ornament.

It's just a necklace. Your hope and faith are in Christ, has nothing to do with the necklace.

Yep that right there

Not unless there's a verse which commands you to wear a cross and chain at all times.

but I don't want to disrespect God by having the cross soaked with water and soap during the shower.

Why do you think God will be disrespected if a piece of jewellery gets wet?
It's more important to worship and honour the One who was on the cross, than the cross itself.

God honors the heart not the ritual. Go ahead and wear the cross or don't wear it but do so to give him glory not some little trinket.

Thanks for the replies everyone! Yeah I guess it was foolish of me to worry about such a little thing.

I wouldn't say foolish but maybe more like inexperienced. Your concern about spiritual matters is good that you'd even consider such a thing and worry about it. Most of us have done things at some point that we were convinced we should do that upon later reflection we wonder why. It seems to be a common part of the process when we grow spiritually.

Also, sometimes for some people, seemingly small gestures or actions (like wearing a cross) can be representative of a much larger thing that is of deep importance to them. When it becomes something legalistic or burdensome, that's often a sign it's perhaps lost some of its original meaning to us.

Unlike some other people, I am not going to tell you that it's just a piece of jewelry, clearly it is not for you. But I don't see the harm in taking it off, especially if it can become water-stained or tarnish. It is not a sign of disrespect to do so.

Eastern Orthodox usually leave their baptismal crosses on at all times. I wish I had; I managed to lose it; its replacement is a leather Coptic cross which obviously I cannot wear in the shower, unlike its gold-chained precursor.
