Hello fellow believers,

I don’t know if you have a similar experience, but over the past month or two I’ve been seeing these ads on Christian Forums from this “revolve” company with horrific sexual images of women wearing very filthy thongs, mostly bare breasts and very inappropriate clothing. I’m not being conservative, these are the types of images that would get a pastor fired for having them on his phone or computer. I’ve complained multiple times to the CF moderators and the website either can’t figure out how to stop it or is prioritize advertisement revenue.

Thankfully (by God’s Grace) I do not currently struggle with sexual sin or porn or things of that nature, but I am recently divorced so I’m sure the devil is going to come at me with that kind of stuff sooner or later. Should I use this website? Otherwise it’s been great encouragement to me spiritually and I enjoy posting here.

Use the browser called Brave. Its made by the former mozilla/firefox director. It will solve your problems.

It also blocks tracking and spying by facebook, google and other enemies of privacy.

Hello @GaveMeJoy, I used to pay $30 per year for a membership here that got rid of all the ads, but now, for either a $40 or $45 total, I believe you get a lifetime membership as a CF "Supporter" and never have to pay (or have ads) again

Go here if you'd like to check it out: https://www.christianforums.com/account/upgrades

An adblocker will help. If you want to see ads, clear all your data such as history, cookies, and the cache. The ads you see are based on your previous browsing history mainly through the cookies stored by your browser. Clearing data will reset that, making the adservers start over on tailoring the ads it chooses for you.

On my phone I use a browser called CM Browser, it blocks all AD's from every site. On a computer...
I use adguard for blocking ad's. I also use a youtube ad blocker called YAB, and just so you know I also use a key word blocker, so I am not tempted to search for bad images on my computer, the blocker app for chrome is called "block site: website blocker" and you can put random password and keep it in a remote place so you can't access it. Also I use free software called K9 blue coat, and it blocks all porn sites. Here are some links that talk about how to set up K9 and other tips. On my phone I use kaspersky parental protection which I think blocks porn sites. I am parent but if you are tempted, you can have accountability partner or wife be parent and you would have to be a child account. That is one way to have a phone safely. BTW I am not saying you particularly stuggle with all this stuff, but I have in the past (five years ago), and this is what helped me

While I would recommend adblock to everybody who wants a normal internet browsing, I understand that christianforums need some money.

I think the ideal solution is brave browser - it gives you virtual money for seeing normal, not-targeted ads and give this money back to websites you like.

If Christianforums is willing to participate in this brave ecosystem, I will pay them through brave, instead of seeing ads I am not interested in.

If CF needs money, then they need to VET the ad's they allow on their platform. If they can't do it, then block it.

If they were totally naked, you'd get used to it pretty quick.

That's what is known as "custom advertising" and it's based on your browsing habits.

I get ads all the time on some forums but they come from product searches I made in the past. If I search for water distillers, I'll get lots of those types of ads for awhile. Bicycles? I'll get those types of ads and so on. For what it's worth.

sir that is not "exactly" accurate. I have custom adds on facebook and all across social media platforms and the adds that pop up on this site were the most anti christian add's I have ever seen, I see a woman in her panties holding a bible, I mean it was BAD... realize I hadn't used porn since 2015. Several computers later, I am seeing stuff that no other social media site was showing. It's just the enemy, infiltrating.

If this is how it is, a complete adblock is the solution, then.

I donated money to CF and got to read ad free.

That is nice, but those who did not donate should not see erotic ads or ads that are distracting from the content.
Porn is bad. I liked this site and gave a little money every once in awhile. Jesus taught, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Setting up a site like this is neither cheap or easy.

From the rules

Advertisement on the Forum
Christian Forums has limited control over the advertising on the forum. We can filter ads after we see them, which is done on a regular basis by Rex. However, there are many ad networks that advertise here. If you see an ad that slipped through and is objectionable, please note which network the ad is coming from by rolling over the ad with your mouse and noting the URL in the status bar at the bottom. Copy the destination URL by right clicking and selecting "copy link address", then post this information in a Contact Us Form. Staff will then quickly locate the ad and remove it. Without the URL link, we would literally be searching through thousands of ads manually. Please follow these instructions and do not discuss these ads in public forums.

also from the rules

Disruptive Behavior, Campaigning, Staff Disciplinary Action
To maintain the peace and harmony on CF you must refrain from doing the following on the public forums:

  • Making posts that speak of any Staff action either with you or another member (including any bans, warnings, or editing or removal of posts)
  • Complaining about another members posts/threads, Christian Forums or it's Staff
  • Spite reports - e.g. reporting in retaliation, multiple reports on a member using opposing arguments but are not violations, or repeatedly reporting a member in harassment.
  • Attempting to undermine these rules or policies via campaigns, petitions, or protests is not allowed
If you feel the need to discuss another members behavior, or have a issue about CF, it's staff or policies, please make a Ticket in Support and discuss it in private with our Admins and Advisors.

Because of these rules, I’m closing this thread.
