  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Should I ask my priest for a blessing or something?

So yesterday my boss asked me to help one of our evening reporters cover the local impeachment protest and counter-protest (photogging). About a half hour before people started showing up, a homeless woman circled the plaza on a bike burning sage and trying to "bless" or "purify" (or whatever) the area before it got started. I felt disturbed by it but I couldn't get away cause I had to be there for work. Things got ugly last night so it certainly didn't work and in all likelihood invited demonic forces into the event.

A few hours later when I was done, I got back to my car and prayed a few decades of the rosary on the way home to reject that pagan ritual and whatever demonic forces might've been at work. After listening to Fr. Dave Nix's podcasts on New Age stuff and the demonic realities of it, I'm wondering if I shouldn't talk to my priest about what I may have been forced to come in contact with? Or is there just a prayer that I can say to further reject that paganism?

Well it could not hurt to get a blessing if you feel really uncomfortable about it. But we have greater power within us than is in the world. Some fruity lady waving about burning sage to “cleanse” the area is disturbing but I think the political climate has a strange spirit/vibe about it anymore. It’s cult like. So it could be a variety of things disturbing you. It could not hurt at all to talk to you priest though.

Great point, and I think I will.

I agree, a blessing from the priest, and an anointing with Holy Oil for protection would be a very good thing; especially since these days you never know in your job where you will be sent next, or what you will encounter. :crossrc:
