  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I personally don't think cloning should be allowed, I think the scientist are trying to play God and I don't believe it is an acceptable practice.

Please put your opinions

I'll be honest, while I don't agree with cloning, it is on their own conscience to play God, just as it is for all of us who are at war with worldy, egotistical vanity. All we can do is pray for them, and petition God for their salvation. You see, they're not really playing God at all, and never could, for there is one thing they can't ever do no matter how they play havoc with the flesh: create a soul. They cannot breathe life, and past cloned animals have made it clear that DNA does not a living being make.

I really wish they'd stop messing with animals, though. If people want to clone themselves they ought to sign up for the testing. The only use cloning will have is entirely for the narcissistic human, and there's no reason defenseless animals should pick up the tab of conceit.

Don't ever get heart failure then...because very soon the valve replacement will likely come from a cloned pig. As a scientist I believe there is a wealth of knowledge and advancement to be gained from continued research.

Well, valve replacement in humans is already successfully being done with the use of pig valves (cartilage, no cells), but it's that enzyme they've newly learned to remove that would supposedly subserve complete pig-to-human organ transplants. So, granted, it could be beneficial. I hadn't been thinking along those lines. However, I haven't read anything that explains why this particular cell would not be absent from any progeny of the altered pigs. If it's not there to pass on from the progenitor, then any young have no chance of creating this human-incompatible enzyme, and I have to wonder why waste tax payer's money on cloning animals?

I also am 100% against cloning on my belief that it is completely unethical and sorry but I could care less about research advancements. I am perfectly willing to leave the time of my death in God's hands, and do not have any desire to have my life prolonged by artificial means.

I take it if you don't like cloning then you don't care for glowing pigs either ?

Though the articles are not about cloning but genetic minulapation (If they were cloned, that would mean that there parents were also glowing pigs)

I don't generally like animal testing, especially when it's on unnecessary things. However, I'm only replying to this message because of animal testing. I know for a fact I wouldn't have made it much past ten without advancements made in medicine and b/c of experimental surgery on dogs. It's not just for us, the advancements made there can also improve the quality of life of animals too. I think cloning can possibly have some practical applications for us and I think the research should continue with regulations in place. I would prefer to see it become something that doesn't require the complete cloning of an animal, but rather the cloning of a part (like a heart, lung, leg, etc).

I have no problem with cloning animals. There's a big difference between the ethical considerations one should have for cloning humans and that which one should have for an animal which has no soul, is routinely slaughtered and eaten, and which man was given dominion over by God in the first place.

Yup, God gave us dominion over the animals, just as He has dominion over us, so it is not "playing God" to reproduce them in an artificial setting and manner. They have been given to us to use for our purposes.

We have a responsibility to be humane toward animals and to practice good stewardship, and if cloning an animal can lead to curing human illnesses, then I am all for it.
