This comes from the old covenant that was established with the Jews. Jesus came and established a new covenant with humanity and the dietary laws like this do not apply.

It is allowed but the fact that it is allowed does not mean that you must do it. People can choose what they want to eat.

Makes you think, I love bacon, a world without bacon sounds dyer.

Eating certain foods (and the list also includes beef from the wrong part of the cow, and any meat butchered in the wrong way, or with blood still in it, and certain foods being served at the same meal and other rules) is a violation of a covenant or agreement that God made with the Children of Israel. His covenant with Christians does not include those dietary restrictions.

The problem is with the word that is used to describe a violation of the covenant. In Hebrew the word is to'evah, which in the KJV is translated as abomination. Some, but not all, to'evah's were also criminal acts in ancient Israel, with legal consequences up to and including the death penalty. Others just required you to announce you were unclean and had to stay away from the Tabernacle and the priests until you took a bath that night. But using the word "abomination" in English makes the very idea of a to'evah seem like a horrible thing and thus fosters the idea that anyone who commited an abomination deserves to die.

All these evils come from inside and make a man 'unclean.' " (The Gospel of St. Mark 7:17-23,NIV)

At the time in which the Torah was written there were other tribes which were enemies of the Hebrews. One of the ways of identifying people whom these tribes had sent into the Hebrews' society in order to spy on them was through their diet. Hence seeing someone in their midst who was eating pork and shellfish, which the Hebrews knew they were not to eat, was an indication of someone from one of their enemies who had infiltrated their society.

As a Christian, I profess Christ's finish work upon the cross which has abrogated the ceremonial laws. Not that many of the laws aren't good to follow (probably it would promote better health to abstain from pork and shellfish), yet I don't think it matters one way or the other for a Christian to follow these rules as though to abide by them determines in any way one's salvation or their standing before God.

It's said God is the same yesterday, today, as is tomorrow, so it worries me about eating unclean foods.
thank you for your interpretation, I try to stay away from unclean foods. However my mother eats pork alot, if she serves me it at her house, I don't tend decline it. (but I am pondering on doing so)

What are your thoughts on tattoos? in the old testament they are declared an abomination in the eyes of the Lord.
I have some tattoos that I got when I was a child, which I am ashamed of, I plan to get them removed (by laser) as soon as I can raise the funds to do so.

I am often inclined to eat pork. Not so much with shellfish.

Then again I also don't worry myself with wearing cotton-polyester blends, or making sure my garden isn't mixed. Neither do I leave the community if I have a "nighttime emission" for a period of time and then offer a sacrifice at the Tabernacle at the end of that period. Nor do I wear tzizit or have a mezuzah affixed to my doorpost.

Simple reason I don't do those things is because I'm a Christian, not a Jew. My religion is Christianity, not Judaism.

I don't see how someone can read those verses and still believe that eating pork is sinful. None of God's creation is inherently sinful.

I guess it's subjective and a personal decision one has to make after taking all of the evidence into account. There is a possibility that it may or may not upset the Lord if we eat unclean foods. It's up to ones self if you are prepared to take that chance.

Only what is clean, without spot or blemish could be placed on the altar to be burned. If you wash a hog after he wallows in the mud does it become clean? Of course not, but what comes out of a man's body as dung, makes his body unclean. Every man should brush his teeth with tartar control tooth; thoroughly was his hands with soap and water, especially after he eats pork,lest his mouth smell like bacon breath when he speaks or his posts are read on this forum.
