  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

From the "News is only what we say it is", files: Shooting Survivor: CNN Gave Me "Scripted Question" After Denying Question About Armed Guards

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Colton Haab said he was approached by CNN to ask a question at Wednesday night's town hall but decided not to after the network gave him a "scripted question," quashing one he wrote himself. Haab, a member of the Junior ROTC shielded students while the school was under attack from the shooter, said he was going to ask about using veterans as armed security guards.

But, but ... he's a survivor.

Victims should never be challenged. Isn't that the rule?

Not exactly. Liberal victims should never be challenged.

But, but.

A CNN spokesman says that wasn't true. Who are you going to believe? :swoon:
Here's a little more about that ...
CNN denies school shooting town hall was scripted after Parkland massacre survivor claimed the network rejected his question about armed guards and urged him to ask one it had written

'After seeing an interview with Colton Haab, we invited him to participate in our town hall along with other students and administrators from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School,' the statement continued.

'Colton's father withdrew his name from participation before the forum began, which we regretted but respected. We welcome Colton to join us on CNN today to discuss his views on school safety.'

Haab said was planning to ask about school safety, and the possibility of using veterans as armed security guards in schools, but the questions were rejected by CNN.

After allegedly being told he had to ask a scripted question, Haab decided not to attend the town hall.

"I don't think that it's going get anything accomplished. It's not gonna ask the true questions that all the parents and teachers and students have,” Haab said

Not at all surprised. It wasn't a townhall so much as an anti-gun rally.
The anti-gun rally is not going to achieve anything. The gun industry involves millions of dollars and it will not give that up without a long, protracted fight. They will hire the most expensive and best lawyers to keep the fight going until the anti-gun folks will run out of funds to continue the fight. After all the dust settles, it will be business as usual.

Lying, why not? It works for the Democrats. Right?
Are you really saying you'd rather he have his honest question replaced with a scripted one from CNN? I'd rather he lie to CNN and ask his honest question than have him silenced completely.

But that's just me.

He should have agreed to it and then asked his own question anyways.

Huh, it seems that the microphone stopped working right when he started asking his question. Gee, that sucks.

Keep in mind that while cnn denied doing this, they were caught feeding questions to Clinton during the Hillary / Bernie debate.

That's different, because that was feeding a political candidate what questions they were going to ask, not giving instructions to a supposedly untrained citizen to ask a specific question or give a specific answer.

They would never do that.

Anyone know what the scripted question was?

No, least of all Colton since none of this actually happened.

>> A CNN source told HuffPost that the town hall was intended to give participants a chance to ask a question, but Haab wanted to read an “extensive” speech. Colton’s father, Glenn Haab, declined to have his son participate after the network refused to let his son read the full speech, according to the source.

Glenn Haab told HuffPost that a CNN producer told him Colton’s speech ― which consisted of an opening statement, three questions and closing remarks ― was “too long,” and that Colton would have to stick to asking one question.

The elder Haab said he told the producer that Colton wouldn’t read “one short question” without the option of first presenting the audience with “extremely relevant” background information. <<

More of the story ...
FL Shooting Survivor Colton Haab: CNN Told Me I Needed To "Stick To The Script"; Entire Town Hall Scripted

COLTON HAAB: So what had happened was four days ago I had gotten contacted by a lady named [State of the Union executive producer] Carrie Stevenson from CNN. She had asked me originally to just write a speech. It was going to be at the town hall at the BB&T Center [in Sunrise, Florida]. So I agreed. I felt like it would be the right thing to do. Be able to go speak my part as well as open eyes to a few things that I thought that can make this situation a little better. From there, three days ago, so the next day after that I had gotten an email back from her and she asked for more of questions rather than a speech. Which I was totally fine with so I wrote a little less of a speech and more of questions that I wanted to ask at the town hall. The day after that it was more of just questions. She asked for just questions that I would like to ask.

So, I gave her my questions and then yesterday, at about 5:15, I made contact with her. And she had asked if I had just asked her one question. So what they had actually done was wrote out a question for me because in my interview with CNN, I had talked about arming the teachers, if they were willing to arm themselves in the school to carry on campus. And they had -- she had taken that of what I had briefed on and actually wrote that question out for me. So I have that question here if you would like me to ask it for you.

...
"I just want to make sure I have this straight. So you sent them a long, in effect essay on what you thought but they put their own words in the question and they weren't the same as the words you had sent in? They were the producer's words?" Carlson asked.

"Absolutely," Haab answered. "They had taken what I had wrote and what I had briefed on and talked about and they actually wrote the question for me."
...
"So if CNN was willing to re-word your question, put their own words in your mouth, and as you said you didn't want to go along with that, do you think they did that to other people last night?" Carlson asked.

"Absolutely, from what I did see, I seen a couple people that had asked questions before I did leave my house. And it was a little piece of paper cut out. And I know for a fact that nobody cut their own paper out and wrote their own question.
