• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I have Aspergers. There is nothing about it, alone, that would drive someone to a killing spree of random strangers.

When I was six, I might have thrown a fit, if frustrated, but it wouldn't have driven me to that.

If that guy had Aspergers at all, he was driven by one or more co-morbid conditions.

At least one of my sons is like that. A local autism specialist diagnosed him as psychotic (not autistic), but a court-ordered second opinion gave him an Aspergers diagnosis, with other co-morbid conditions.

If the shooter was on the spectrum, he had to have had something else as well.

Considering people on the spectrum tend to be very big on following rules and concerning right and wrong, what the shooter did kinda flies in the face of how someone on the Spectrum would act.

The mother getting shot by her son I can see, but I would suspect then there was some sort of abusive situation going on. However, the driving to a school and gunning down a bunch of young children, I'm sorry but the overwhelming majority of people on the Spectrum wouldn't even consider doing something like that...

So in short there had to have been something else wrong with the shooter.

What do you mean by on the spectrum?
That is anyone who has any form of autism, whether it is mild, like Aspergers, or severe, like non-verbal Kanners, and everything in between.
what do you mean by co-morbid?
Often (but not always) autistics may have other mental problems on top of autism. Depression is quite common. Like NTs, Jesus can help with those, if we ask Him to.

I'm getting angry at Aspergers being associated with this killer of innocent children and the media's continuous mentioning of it as a disorder. We are made in the image of God, each different and loved by our Creator more than life. It is not a disorder, we are just gifted in different areas and struggle in social understanding. I praise God for how he made me.

"How foolish can you be? He is the Potter, and he is certainly greater than you, the clay! Should the created thing say of the one who made it, "He didn't make me"? Does a jar ever say, "The potter who made me is stupid"?" Isaiah 29:16
