So apparently some people think this bes a big deal:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JW4LLwkgmqA

Not sure what the fuss bes about really. Since when did anyone believe Oprah to be a fundamentalist-flavored Christian leader in the world and therefore beholden to that one narrow slice's viewpoint of things, or a spokesperson thereof, in the first place? Since when did she ever make any such claims? Correct this one if you know of any such time, please.

It seems to Moriah that the only "Kool Aid" here bes trying to spin some conspiracy theory out of Oprah's personal spiritual journey, and that this impetus arises from her endorsement of Obama. The real suspicion of course creeping in when it becomes political, becomes about her endorsing Obama -- that bes where the spin cycle tossing hidden agendas can be heard running most clearly.

Quite frankly, it sees nothing shocking here. And to be perfectly honest it sees nothing anti-Christian in what she bes saying either. But Moriah has the universal decoder ring and can cross-translate between spiritual systems of thought. Many cannot, chief among those being the sort that make these kind of negative judgment calls and start running in circles with the chicken little routine every time a public figure explores spiritual concepts outside the narrow binary box of the most rigor-mortis'd right-wing neocon. Good GRIEF. Read Acts 17:22-34 sometime already.

I didn't know Oprah drank this flavor of coolaid but wasn't nearly as disturbed at this as I was today when I opened the mail and found "St Matthew's church had mailed me a Jesus prayer rug! The whole thing was bizarre from the letter to a purpleISH goulish Jesus head fold out paper rug with the intstructions that if I stared at it long enough the eyes would open up and look back at me because Jesus knows what I need. Anyone else get one of these?

Therein lies the crux of the matter. Well said.

You sure? The play button won't work but if you click the URL in the blue bar up top it should take you to YouTube AND play the video.

There bes others as well, and after viewing a few of them, Moriah begins to wonder if maybe its previous judgment bes too hasty.... maybe having a universal decoder ring bes a hindrance in these affairs, especially one forged under Lucifer's command originally ...

Occupational hazard of the Inhabited #333: having a mind that can conceive of anything as truth -- even worshipping Satan and being controlled by Him.... merciful God please help Moriah ...

I'm shocked about this video for one simple reason: The denial of the afterlife.

But, that's just my take on it.
Do you have any solid evidence that there IS an afterlife or is it just something that you find to be comforting? Why is an afterlife needed if the human race is not a collection of individuals?

Why may I ask Serp, that you spend all your time attacking ideas rather than presenting your own?

Oprah is just spewing the same new age garbage that others have done before her. The fact that she is one of the richest women in the world automatically makes the religion more appealing.

Hi Moriah,

I don't find it that shocking. It's nothing new: denial of Christ, New Age jargon, and a slew of other non-original ideas. As a Christian I expect to see this 'we can all become god' or 'we all are god' teaching. Nothing new, just regurgitated rhetoric from a woman with a large influence.

My take.

In CHRIST alone...

seems to me that christians wish to be the only ones who can use mystical jargon to describe their experience and detest it when others do so.... to me there is not much difference between a christian saying that God dwells in them vs someone else saying that we have the ability to be a god, or become gods...

nothing new here -- Oprah has been promoting new age theology since at least the early 90's - I remember my mother-in-law raving about how wonderful Marianne Williamson and her book A Return To Love was - Oprah introduced her to the world. My m-i-l ran out and purchased the book within 2 days of seeing it promoted on Oprah - she loaned to me raving how wonderful it was. I thought it was awful (I still remember one of the "theories" - sin is the absence of love - oh please). I gave it back emphasizing how unScriptural it was. My m-i-l was upset with me because how could I not like and appreciate something Oprah promoted.

Interestingly enough my m-i-l was converted several years later and threw the book out. I think she must have forgotten that she had loaned it to me. When she tossed the book she told me she was getting rid of it because of it's contradictions with Scripture:clap:

Our best defense (as you well know) is to stay grounded in God's Word. Satan cannot stand against the Truth.

The teaching that we are all gods is central to the Bible. Psalm 8:3-5 actually says "You have made him a little lower than the god?" Then Ps. 82:6 says "I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High." And Jesus validates that view in John 10:34. "Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods." If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?"

That is a serious stretch. Yeah I read the texts.
