  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

sheer hypocrisy.

Alright, now that the title has your attention i'd like to discuss something which has always boggled my mind.

I've read plenty of threads about how homosexuals are going to hell, and the justification is the bible. How they are responsible for the collaspe of marriage and society.

However, I find it just delicious that other "equal" sins like fornication(sex before marriage) and adultery are never mentioned or discussed. Fornication is much more prevalent than homosexuality in our society, but then why is the focus aimed at homosexuality?

Why is the brunt of "marriage is under attack" also focused on homosexuality? Does Britney Spear's 55 hour marriage not threaten the sanctity of marriage? Does Jennifer Lopez and her 4(?) divorces not threaten the sanctity of marriage? Why do christians feel they have a monopoly on what defines a marriage?

When the bible is used to condemn homosexuality, why is there utter silence about the parts that mention eating shellfish and trimming sideburns are also a sin?

:yum: Eating different stuff is not counted as a sin in christian tradition, because of our New Testament... But to point out homosexuals to be the reason of failing marriages is ridicolous!
Every man and woman must answer for their own sins, without trying to put focus on somebody elses...
My sins are my responsibility...
Other persons are their...
:crossrc: Of course, I can pray for them, and if they ask me, I can tell my opinion...
If they are family or close friends, I might tell them without them asking - but only if I can do it with love...

I know plenty of churchs and christians that would agree. Our pastor talks about those two sins to our church more than homosexuality because we are more likely to face it. They just aren't discussed here. Not exciting enough to argue about I guess. As far as adultery most don't find it acceptable Christian or not. What's to argue about there?

I agree. Anything that makes marriage less than what it is should be addressed and is in most churchs. I don't know that I should have a monopoly on it but it is referenced in the Bible. I will comment on my faith if asked. Personally if the government makes it legal I will feel the same way about it I do abortion. Perfer it not be there but Ceasar is Ceasar.

The two other things you mention are OT rules and Christ specifically tells us they are not relavent. Sexual inappropiatness, including all the things you mentioned in the beginning are. The Bible says we are to condem homosexuality not homosexuals. Just like any sin.

Homosexuality is considered "icky". Homosexuals are considered "other" by some heterosexuals, and therefore they're easier to demonize. It's always easier to point the blame at a group you can't identify with. That might be the reason why it gets more attention. If the group doing the "fornicating" were heterosexual aliens from another planet, Christians would be all over that.

I think there are even some that typically disagree with my held position(s) on certain issues who could say that I also speak up if those "other" things are likewise propagated. :|
