Thanks for all the congrats

Now I've got more of a chance to tell the story (so all the girls can go AAAWWW!)
Yesterday was the wedding of our Intervarsity staff worker Josh and his wife Opala. They're a very cute couple, and there were a lot of IV friends there. At the reception, a bunch of our female friends kept on telling me how much I needed to hurry up and propose to Steph. I thought this all was good and funny, since I actually had the engagement ring in the car at the time

So Steph's sister called, because Steph was having a girls' weekend with her mom and sister, and I told her sister that I wasn't sure when we were going to get back, because I was gonna steal her after the wedding so I could spend more time with her. So after the wedding(the reception was over pretty early... around 5), I started driving back towards Whitewater, where we go to school, instead of Madison, where her mom and sister were. When Steph realized that I wasn't going to be persuaded out of taking her for a walk, she told me that there was this lake on her drive to work that she's been wanting to check out, so we drove over there. When we were getting out of the car, I deftly put the ring in my pocket without her noticing, and we started walking around this path. We found a little side-path and a picnic table right on the water's edge. It wasn't a very picturesque scene... there was an empty case of beer... a lot of mud... but it was fun to just sit on the table and talk. I kept on bringing up things about the beginning of our relationship to set a reminiscent mood, and it was working perfectly. At one point, when I told her I love her, she asked why, and it opened up a perfect opportunity to say something sweet and romantic! Now, as a quick side note, Steph wasn't expecting this at all. And one thing we like to joke around about is whether wherever we are is a good place to propose. I'll say it about something like a baseball game or something as a joke, but yesterday she turned to me when I was holding her on this picnic table and said that this would be an ok place to propose. So we talked a little more and she was getting cold, so we got up to keep walking. She noticed me take something out of my pocket, but she couldn't tell what because I gave her a hug right away. Then I asked her if she remembered what she had just said a minute ago, and she gave a nervous yes

I got down on one knee, told her I love her very much and I'll always love her, used her full name, and asked her if she'd marry me. She sort of stood there in a shock for a minute, wondering if it was a joke. She eventually stammered out a yes and I gave her a big hug

See, a long time ago, I told her that even though I joke around a lot about proposing, she'll know I'm not joking when I use her middle name, and since then I've never used her middle name until then. It was definitely a great moment.
